Clutch TSSAA baseball playoffs no-hitter among Nashville area boys athlete of week candidates

There were some huge Nashville area individual performances as teams qualified for the final stages of the TSSAA baseball and soccer playoffs. 

You can vote for the La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries boys athlete of the week below. Nominees are from all classes in competition from May 13-18.

Voting will close Thursday at noon.

Jackson Kennedy, Beech: Kennedy was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in a 6-0 win over Lincoln County that qualified the Buccaneers for the Class 4A state tournament.

Brocks Petterson, Brentwood: Petterson scored two goals to help Brentwood boys lacrosse repeat as TSLA state champion with a 6-4 win over Nolensville in the Division I-AA final.

Kirk Weatherford, Clarksville: Weatherford was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in a 5-0 win over Collierville that sent the Wildcats to the Class 4A state tournament.

Jackson Lee, Columbia Academy: Lee pitched seven innings allowing only three hits and striking out 13 in a 2-0 win over Silverdale Baptist to advance to this week’s TSSAA Division II-A state semifinal.

Quinn Kunkel, CPA: Kunkel was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in a 9-6 win over Knoxville Catholic in a DII-AA state quarterfinal series.

Rylan Moses, Goodpasture: Moses was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in a 1-0 win over Lausanne as the Cougars advanced to this week’s DII-A state semifinal in Murfreesboro.

Dillon Leonard, Hendersonville: Leonard’s penalty kick goal ended a shootout with Brentwood, lifting the Commandos to a 6-5 win over the two-time defending state champions and putting themselves in the state tournament for the first time since 2010.

Mason Tidwell, Loretto: Tidwell was 5-for-6 with two home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs in a two-game sectional series win over Camden as the Mustangs advanced to the state tournament. Tidwell also allowed four hits and struck out 11 in five innings of the second win.

Dawson Sweeney, Nolensville: Sweeney pitched seven innings allowing only three hits and striking out 10 in a 1-0 win over Green Hill that captured a Class 4A state tournament berth for the Knights.

Bennett Gammon, Smith County: Gammon threw a no-hitter and struck out 11 in seven innings of a 1-0 win over East Nashville.

Caleb Devore, Station Camp: Devore was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in a 12-9 win over Chester County.

Landon Taylor, White House: Taylor was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in a 6-2 win over Creek Wood that helped the Blue Devils avoid playoff elimination. White House eventually won the sectional series 2-1 to reach the Class 3A state tournament.
