Clemson baseball score vs. Lipscomb: Live updates from NCAA Tournament Clemson regional

CLEMSON – Clemson will deliver its first pitch as an NCAA Baseball Tournament Regional host since 2018 on Friday when the Tigers face Lipscomb in the first game of the four-team event.

Top-seed Clemson (43-17) and fourth-seeded Lipscomb (36-24) are set for a 1 p.m. start at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

The Tigers, who are ranked No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll and the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, are coming off their first ACC tournament championship since 2016 and will carry a 16-game winning streak into the game. Lipscomb, of Nashville, Tennessee, claimed an automatic NCAA Tournament berth by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.

It will be the first meeting between the teams.

Sophomore right-hander Austin Gordon (2-4, 4.41 ERA) will start on the mound for Clemson while Logan Van Treeck (8-4, 3.50 ERA), a junior left-hander, will start for the Bisons.

Tennessee (38-19), the regional’s No. 2 seed, will face No. 3 seed Charlotte (34-26) in Friday’s second game (6 p.m., ESPNU). The winner of that game will play the winner of the Clemson-Lipscomb game on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Ninth inning

Lipscomb 9th: B.J. Bailey in at pitcher to finish the game for the Tigers.

FINAL: Clemson 12, Lipscomb 5

Eighth inning

Clemson 8th: Ben Blackwell leads off the inning with a single, then moves to second on a stolen base and to third on a sac bunt. Back to the top of the order.

Cooper Ingle drives Blackwell in with an RBI single. Clemson 8, Lipscomb 5.

Back-to-back walks loads the bases for Billy Amick, who his a grand slam to right center. Timely hitting has benefitted the Tigers today. Clemson 12, Lipscomb 5.

Bertram with a slow rolling hit to center, and he legs out a double. Blake Wright will bat, and Clemson has batted around in the 8th.

Lipscomb 8th: Ryan Ammons in at pitcher for the Tigers after Garris issues a walk. Alex Vegara, he of the two home runs today, will be at the plate. A pop fly to right field is mishandled by Bertram and Crighton. Third Clemson error of the game.

The two Lipscomb runners steal 2nd and 3rd base, and Ammons gets a lineout for the second out. Lipscomb's Trace Willhoite grounds out to shortstop to end the inning.

Seventh inning

Clemson 7th: Ethan Smith will be the new Lipscomb pitcher. Logan Van Treeck went six innings for the Bisons.

Caden Grice hits a one-out double, then moves to third on what is being scored a stolen base. Billy Amick then walks. Runners on the corners with one out. Riley Bertram's excellent bunt up the first base line scores Grice. Clemson 7, Lipscomb 5.

Lipscomb 7th: A walk and a single with one out has the Bisons threatening. Clayton is done for the day. Reed Garris will be the new Clemson pitcher. Garris strikes out two Lipscomb batters to end the threat.

Sixth inning

Clemson 6th: The Tigers get a two-out walk and nothing else.

Lipscomb 6th: Alex Vegara hits his second home run of the day, this one a solo shot with two out. Clemson 6, Lipscomb 5.

Fifth inning

Clemson 5th: The Tigers get two on to start the inning, a Cannarella single and an error. Then Will Taylor bunts for a base hit and have the bases loaded with nobody out for Caden Grice. Grice RBI sacrifice fly. Clemson 4, Lipscomb 4

Riley Bertram's two-out, 2-RBI double into the left center gap gives the Tigers the lead. Nice response. Clemson 6, Lipscomb 4.

Lipscomb 5th: Caleb Ketchup leadoff home run ties the game. Ketchup has two hits and has scored twice. Then. Alex Vegara hits one over the left field seats to give Lipscomb the lead. Lipscomb 4, Clemson 3

Will Gordon is done for the day after getting a strikeout following the back-to-back homers. Nick Clayton coming into the game. Lipscomb loads the bases, including a mishandled grounder by Blake Wright with two out, but Clayton gets a flyout to end the inning. Regionals, y'all. Never easy.

Fourth inning

Clemson 4th: A 1-2-3 inning for Lipscomb starter Logan Van Treeck, who has six strikeouts.

Lipscomb 4th: A 1-2-3 inning for Will Gordon, the first such half-inning of the game.

Third inning

Clemson 3rd: The Tigers manufactured a run after Will Taylor and Caden Grice got hit by pitches in consecutive at-bats. The two moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, and Billy Amick drove in Taylor on an RBI sacrifice fly. Clemson 3, Lipscomb 2

Lipscomb 3rd: Back-to-back singles to start the inning. A bunt moved the two runners into scoring position, and a Trace Willhoite RBI sacrifice fly ties the game. Clemson 2, Lipscomb 2

Second inning

Clemson 2nd: The Tigers got two-out hits from Ben Blackwell and Jack Crighton, but Cam Cannarella strikes out to end the inning. Five of Clemson's six outs have been strikeouts.

Lipscomb 2nd: Two two-out hits get Lipscomb on the board. Parks Bouck got a single against the shift, then moved to second base on a balk. David Coppedge then hit a RBI double into left field. Gordon then got a strikeout to end the inning. Clemson 2, Lipscomb 1

First inning

Clemson 1st: Cooper Ingle with a one-out single to left to get the Tigers started. Two batters later, Caden Grice hits a two-run home run to right center. Absolutely clobbered, and over the stands. Clemson 2, Lipscomb 0.

Lipscomb 1st: Lipscomb's Caleb Ketchup reaches via error, but nothing else for the Bisons. Austin Gordon struck out back-to-back batters to end the inning.
