Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Clayton Kershaw’s status Monday, and it was a mixed bag.

Roberts told reporters that Kershaw “didn’t feel great” after playing catch. He also noted that Kershaw’s mysterious injury hasn’t yet prompted an MRI.

Dodgers shut Kershaw down last week

The Dodgers shut down their ace on Friday at spring training, with Roberts explaining that Kershaw was dealing with “an arm kind of thing.”

The team did not provide a timetable for a return or speculate on the injury other than Roberts suggesting he could be experiencing “dead arm.”

“When he says he doesn’t feel right, you’re looking at the calendar, just to push things back is prudent and that’s what we’re doing right now,” Roberts told the Los Angeles Times last week. “So to say when he’s going to throw his next ‘pen, I can’t say right now. And we’re sort of leaving that to him and the trainers to figure out when that is.”

Dodgers still don’t seem too concerned

Monday’s update didn’t provide much clarification, but the fact that the team isn’t concerned enough to run an MRI suggests they’re not too worried about the situation.

Roberts continued on Monday that it “might be a day or two before he picks it up again.”

Kershaw, 30, is coming off a season that saw him miss several starts with back and biceps issues. He signed a three-year, $93 million extension in the offseason.
