Class 6A Region 2 madness as we prepare for Week 7 of the Alabama High School football season

The Alabama High School Football season is in the second half of the 2023 season with Week 7 on the horizon. Week 6 gave us several region matchups that shook up the playoff landscape. What’s in store going forward?

Here are the three trending Montgomery-area takeaways from week 6 and it's impact heading into the back stretch of the season:

Montgomery Catholic loaded offense

The Knights were without starting quarterback Caleb McCreary in last week’s matchup against town rival Montgomery Academy.

The backfield of JJ Williams, Josh Griffin, and Zaylon Jackson-Ligon combined for seven total rushing touchdowns, dominating the Eagles 48-0. The offensive line was precise all game and the defense allowed one trip to the red zone.

Getting their fifth shutout victory without their team captain was a testament to the winning culture the Knights have created. With the epic matchup against region rival Andalusia two weeks away, this program is on pace to having a deep playoff run.

Class 6A Region 2 madness

This Class 6A region is coming down to the wire as four Montgomery-area teams sit with winning records in the standings.

Both Pike Road and Wetumpka are on four-game winning streaks after starting the season with losing records. Carver and Lanier are two loss teams as they prepare to renew their rivalry in two weeks in the final westside classic matchup.

The four teams will all face each other in the coming weeks before the regular season ends to punch a ticket into the postseason.

Teams you may have forgotten

In Class 5A, two River Region teams have one loss on the season with Elmore County and Holtville both sitting with 5-1 records. These two teams will face off in week 9. However, the two programs can make a playoff bid and raise a few eyebrows in the postseason.

After a one-point week 2 loss, Auburn High School has won five straight and will have an open schedule for week 7. In week 8 they will host statewide powerhouse Central-Phenix City with a chance to shake up the state rankings.

Percy Julian, Prattville Christian and Alabama Christian all sit with 3-3 records. And with a few more wins, they can sneak into postseason action. Out of the three, Percy Julian has the best odds of getting a nod. However, they will have to be nothing less than flawless in 7A action.
