Clark-Willow Lake's Nesheim, Tri-State's Foltz win titles in Webster cross country meet
BROOKINGS — The hot streak continued for Watertown High School's boys golf team on Monday.
The Arrows shot a 4-over par 292 and topped Harrisburg by two strokes to win the Bill Scholten Invitational at the Brookings Country Club.
Other teams and their scores included Pierre (302), Tea Area (313), Mitchell (317), Brookings and Sioux Falls Lincoln (320), Yankton (323), Brandon Valley (326), O'Gorman (327), Aberdeen Central (331), Sioux Falls Washington (349), Sioux Falls Roosevelt (361) and Sioux Falls Jefferson (370).
"The boys played great today," said Watertown head coach Corey Neale. "These guys are focused and determined to achieve their goals at year end."
The tournament victory was the fifth in a row for Watertown and the fourth of the season for senior Jake Olson, who won medalist honors with a 4-under par 68. He won by four shots over Sawyer Sonnenschein of Pierre, Charlie Swift of Harrisburg and Ty Lenards of Watertown.
Johnny Lake was 13th (75), Kaden Rylance 19th (77), Gabe Norberg 21st (78) and Jaden Solheim 29th (79).
"Jake got another win. He's having a great year," said Neale. "Johnny played well in his first varsity meet and Ty played another great round."
Cole Brust placed 26th with a 78 for Aberdeen Central. Other Golden Eagles included Carter Blanchard (42nd, 82), Peyton Brust (46th, 84), Quincy Madsen (53rd, 85), Jackson Ravellette (65th, 89) and Kyler Senger (77th, 93).
Watertown, Aberdeen Central and many of the same teams are scheduled to play Friday in the Mitchell Invite at the Lakeview Municipal Golf Course.
Webster Invite Cross Country
WEBSTER — Kamryn Nesheim of Clark-Willow Lake and Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State won individual races Monday in the Webster Area Invitational cross country meet at the Webster Golf Course.
Nesheim won the girls' 5,000-meter run in a time of 19 minutes and 59.08 seconds. The Cyclones also won the team title with a 22, followed by Frederick Area (41), James Valley Christian (53), Deuel (57) and Warner (66).
Foltz won the boys' 5,000 in 17:33.3. Frederick Area won the team title with a score of 19, followed by Clark-Willow Lake at 39, Deuel 40, Faulkton Area 60, Webster Area 86 and Groton Area 92.
There were 55 boys' runners and 43 girls.
