Cincinnati Steam, Hamilton Joes baseball teams celebrate GLSCL All-Stars

Both of Southwest Ohio's baseball teams in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League will have plenty of representation in the 2023 All-Star game.

The game, taking place Tuesday, July 18, is annually local at Prasco Park in Mason.

The Hamilton Joes and Cincinnati Steam are members of the league. The Joes play home games at Foundation Field in Hamilton, while the Steam plays at Elder High School's athletic complex.

All 13 teams are represented with the two rosters divided representing both the North and South divisions. Each all-star team roster is composed of two players per position and 10 pitchers, each throwing one inning during the game.

There is also a group of prospects who have been selected to be available as replacements in case of an injury.

All of the players selected, all-star starters, all-star reserves and all-star prospects, will participate in a showcase on the turf field at 2:30 p.m. at Prasco Park in front of major league scouts.

The game is scheduled to be played on the Prasco Park main field with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. The event is free of charge to the public and there will also be a host of food trucks available for everyone in attendance.

The Joes are defending league champions.

After Monday’s action, the Joes are 17-11, one game behind Xenia in the South Division and three games ahead of two teams tied for third. The Steam is 13-16, 5.5 games back and 4.5 behind the Joes. The top two teams in the South Division make the playoffs. The Joes have 10 games left and the Steam, nine.

The teams play each other one more time at Elder High School’s athletic complex July 20.

Who are the Hamilton Joes All-Stars?

The Hamilton Joes have three All-Star starters in Jake Paulick (catcher), Liam McFadden-Ackman (first base) and Stephen Sigler (shortstop).

Paulick and McFadden-Ackman play for Northern Kentucky University. McFadden-Ackman, a Mason High School standout, had 16 homers and 69 RBIs for the Norse this year. On Feb. 26, he drew national attention including airtime on ESPN SportsCenter after hitting two grand slams in one inning.

Stigler is a Colerain graduate playing for Miami-Hamilton.

Reserves for the Joes are Carter Rust, Zack Mallia and Joey Valentine. Rust is a Lakota West graduate playing for the University of Charleston.

Prospects for the Joes are A.J. Swader and Cameron Bryant.

Who are the Cincinnati Steam All-Stars?

The Cincinnati Steam has one starter in outfielder Max Fries. The Taylor High School graduate plays for Earlham College.

The Steam has three reserves in Tyler Stack, Harrison Barnes and Calvin Mitchell. Stack just completed his freshman season with the Big East champion Xavier Musketeers. Barnes is a Sycamore graduate playing for Tuskegee University. Mitchell is a Beavercreek, Ohio, native.

The Steam has one prospect in Noah Kandel from Massillon, Ohio.

There are several other local products scattered throughout the league but none of them were named all-stars.
