Cincinnati Reds add to catching depth with Austin Wynns free agent signing
The Cincinnati Reds on Thursday announced the signing of free agent catcher Austin Wynns to a one-year deal.
Wynns, 33, adds depth behind big-league catchers Tyler Stephenson and Luke Maile and joins a spring catching corps that includes backup/depth catcher P.J. Higgins, who signed last month after having played 83 big-league games for the Chicago Cubs in 2021 and ’22.
Wynns signed a split contract that pays $900,000 if he’s on the big-league roster, $300,000 for the minors.
