CIF-Southern Section boys basketball playoffs: Twelve area teams advance to second round

Elias Chin scored 25 points to became Thousand Oaks High's all-time leading scorer while leading the Lancers to a CIF-Southern Section playoff win and highlight a strong first-round showing by area boys basketball teams Wednesday night.

Chin also had seven assists as Thousand Oaks opened the Division 2AA playoffs with a 66-51 victory over ML King at home. The 6-foot-4 senior now has 1,375 career points, surpassing Matt Hauser's mark of 1,366. Chin is also the program's career leader in rebounds and assists.

Trent MacLean finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Luke Koren had five rebounds and four assists, and Tanner Blakney, Jake Ange and Brooklyn Padron made their varsity debuts for the Lancers.

Thousand Oaks (23-6), which finished as tri-champion in the Marmonte League, will play Linfield Christian in Temecula in a second-round game Friday.

Eleven other area teams punched their tickets to the next round, while five teams had their seasons come to an end Wednesday night.

Jadon Holmes had 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, Ade Daramola finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, Aaron Huggins had 10 points and three rebounds, and Seshsha Henderson added seven assists and three points as Coastal Canyon League champion Oak Park earned a 70-45 win over visiting Diamond Bar in a Division 2AA first-round game.

The Eagles (19-9) will host Rolling Hills Prep in a second-round game Friday.

Austin Maziasz finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds and two steals, Kayden Elsokary had 16 points, six assists and five rebounds, Danny Bao had 11 points and four rebounds, Dante Deshautelle contributed nine points, four assists and four rebounds, and Aidan Delavari added five assists to lead Marmonte League tri-champion Westlake to a 71-49 victory over visiting Santa Monica in a Division 2A first-round game.

The Warriors (23-6) will host Paraclete in a second-round game Friday.

Nick Giarrusso had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists, Isayah Garcia finished with 14 points and three assists, and Stevie Prudholme scored 10 points to lead Marmonte League tri-champion Oaks Christian to a 72-47 win over visiting Canyon-Canyon Country in a Division 3AA first-round game.

The Lions (19-10) will travel to Sage Hill in a second-round game Friday.

Dylan Benner scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Jeremy Goodcase had 11 points, Donald Clark IV added 10 points, and the St. Bonaventure defense allowed just nine second-half points en route to a 59-36 win over visiting Inglewood in a Division 3AA first-round game.

The Seraphs (21-8) will host Bonita in a second-round game Friday.

Tyler Hook scored 16 points and Josh Castaniero and Spencer Clausen each had 13 points to lead Camarillo to a 53-36 victory over visiting Artesia in a Division 3AA first-round game.

The Scorpions (19-10) will host Pilibos in a second-round game Friday.

Jose Valdovinos scored 13 points to set the program's single-season record with 631, David Alvarez had nine points, Cristian Moreno had six points, and Carlos Xicotencatl, Sabino Duarte and JJ De Santiago each added five points to lead Citrus Coast League champion Santa Paula to a 48-40 victory over visiting Holy Martyrs in a Division 4A first-round game.

The fourth-seeded Cardinals (24-5), who set the school record for wins in a season, will play at St. Monica Academy in a second-round game Friday night.

Carter Reid finished with 25 points and 12 rebounds, Mason Stueber had 16 points and five assists, Tyler Pickett had 10 points and five rebounds, and Will Friel added eight points and seven rebounds to lead Omega League champion Hillcrest Christian to a 70-59 win over Edgewood in a in a Division 4A first-round game at La Reina High.

The Saints (20-8) will travel to Irvine for a second-round game Friday.

Travis Valenzuela finished with 22 points and nine rebounds, Finn Fancher had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Caleb Sebek contributed nine points and nine rebounds, and Parsa Kamali had seven assists to lead Ventura to a 62-42 win over South El Monte in a Division 5AA first-round game at Mountain View High.

The Cougars (10-16) will host Calvary Baptist in a second-round game Friday.

Nazir Ivey scored 22 points, Rajai Moody had 21 points, Christopher Anguiano had 15 points, Jevon Bobbsemple had eight points, and Angel Avila added seven points to lead Channel Islands to a 78-56 win over Environmental Charter in a Division 5AA first-round game.

The Raiders (14-11), who earned their first playoff victory since 2000, will host Dunn in a second-round game Friday.

Ashton Brown scored 29 points and Luigirey Guce had 11 points to lead Foothill Tech to a 60-39 win over host Southlands Christian in a Division 5A first-round game.

The Dragons (15-13) will play the winner of Thursday's game between Serrano and Calvary Chapel-Downey in a second-round game Friday at Ventura College.

Beacon Hill of Camarillo defeated host Sequoyah, 52-35, in a Division 5A first-round game. The Gryphons (8-14) will play the winner of Thursday's game between Big Bear and Ambassador Christian in a second-round game Friday.

Nathaniel Gomez scored 22 points and Marcos Ramirez finished with 21 points, eight assists and three steals for Oxnard in its 72-55 loss to host Santa Margarita in a Division 1 first-round game.

The Yellowjackets, who earned a share of the Channel League title, finished their season at 23-6.

Kyle Hoffer and Justin Rener each scored 17 points and Ryder Mjoen had 12 points for Simi Valley (17-12) in its 81-53 loss to host Campbell Hall in a Division 2AA first-round game.

Newbury Park Adventist (18-6) lost to host Sierra Vista, 60-46, in a Division 4AA first-round game.

Thacher (11-7) lost to visiting Estancia, 56-43, in a Division 4A first-round game.

Fillmore (6-18) lost at top-seeded El Segundo, 84-29, in a Division 5AA first-round game.
