Chukars' 4-run eighth beats Range Riders
Aug. 16—IDAHO FALLS — Brandon Bohning hit a two-run home run and a three-run triple for Idaho Falls Tuesday, in the Chukars' 10-8 Pioneer League baseball win over the Glacier Range Riders.
Mark Herron, Jr. added a three-run home run for Idaho Falls but the Chukars' No. 9 hitter was the difference — Bohning's triple capped a four-run eighth inning after the Range Riders had erased a 6-2 deficit.
It came after Herron Jr. had hit an RBI single off Roy Robles to break the 6-6 tie and Stephen Cullen walked to load the bases with nobody out. Justin Coleman came on to pitch, gave up the triple, and then recorded three straight outs.
In the top of the ninth Dean Miller hit a two-out, two-run homer, his ninth.
Miller hit an RBI double and Benjamin Fitzgerald smacked a two-run homer, his 11th, in the fifth as Glacier closed to 6-5; the Range Riders drew even in the seventh when Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in a run.
Miller and Kingston Liniak had three hits, and Miller scored twice. Jake Mackenzie, who joined the Range Riders on Aug. 7, played third and drove in his second run for the club.
CLIFF NOTES: This six-game series at Melaleuca Field continued Wednesday night. ... The Range Riders also added Ben Huber to the roster on Aug. 9, and put Crews Taylor (.293, 11 homers) on the injured list the same day. ... Huber, 23, played three seasons at D-II Limestone and then was all-Big East at UConn, where he hit 28 homers in two seasons. ... MacKenzie, out of Fordham, is a 24-year-old who hit .302 in the Frontier League (New York) in 2022, and spent part of this season in the Colorado Rockies' system.
