Chiefs UDFA Spotlight: Fresno State WR Nikko Remigio
After becoming a two-time All-Trinity Leaguer at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, Remigio received offers from UCLA, USC, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Illinois and Cal. He decided to head up the coast and commit to the Golden Bears where he’d spend the first four years of his college career.
Ahead of the 2022 college football season, Remigio used his final year of eligibility to transfer to Fresno State. He nearly matched his career numbers at Cal in a single season with the Bulldogs, earning Second-Team All-Mountain West honors at both the wide receiver and return specialist positions

Cal (2018-2021): 97 receptions, 903 yards and seven touchdowns. 45 punt returns for 344 yards. 20 kickoff returns for 549 yards and one touchdown.

Fit with the Chiefs
Cracking the 53-man roster as a wide receiver in Kansas City will be extremely tough. With 13 players on the 90-man offseason roster, eight players could be fighting for a single available roster spot. Remigio has some advantages with this competition during training camp and the preseason. One of those advantages is understanding that he needs to build value by showing versatility.
Remigio knows that the more he can do, the more likely he’ll have a chance to make the team. It starts with learning the playbook, which he says lives up to the hype as being one of the more advanced and complicated playbooks in the NFL. While he was confined to playing the slot at Fresno State, Remigio is learning X, Z and the Zebra positions in Kansas City.
No matter how you dice it, special teams will matter for that last roster spot, so making an impression on Dave Toub is a must. Remigio has a ton of experience in college as both a kick returner and punt returner, including his two punt return touchdowns just a season ago. If he can also play on the coverage units, that’ll be even more added value for a team like the Chiefs.
