Chiefs HC Andy Reid provides injury updates following Friday practice

Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid gave his typical post-practice injury update on Friday.

There was one new absence from practice for the Chiefs, but it was not related to an injury, but rather an illness according to the head coach.

“Really, no injuries to mention,” Reid began. “Chris Jones was sick today, so he didn’t practice. Everybody else practiced. I’ll meet with Rick (Burkholder) after this on a couple of the guys, Kadarius Toney being one of them. We’ll just see how he made it through today and we’ll go from there.”

Toney has five consecutive limited practice sessions under his belt through Thursday, Dec. 15. His practice status today will likely be the biggest factor in whether he’s ready to return from injury.

Reid provided some context on Patrick Mahomes popping up on the injury report on Wednesday as a full participant in practice with a hand injury. Mahomes was spotted wearing a light wrap on his right hand. Reid says the injury is a thumb issue, but nothing that should be of concern heading in the Week 15 matchup with the Houston Texans.

“Yeah, there is no concern,” Reid said. “He’s doing good. He threw all week.”

As for the status of WR Mecole Hardman, who was designated to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, it’s looking like he won’t be activated to the 53-man roster this week.

“I’ll check with Rick (Burkholder) and just see where we’re at,” Reid said. “I’m going to tell you with him, though, I’m leaning away from playing him this week. But he did have a good week of practice.”
