Chiefs coach Andy Reid to throw first pitch on Royals Opening Day

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Move over, Cole Ragans. Big Red is heading to the mound.

The Kansas City Royals announced Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will throw out the first pitch on Opening Day next week.

The Royals are set to face off against the Minnesota Twins on March 28 at Kauffman Stadium for their home opener.

But before Ragans gets his first start of the season, Reid will throw the ceremonial first pitch.

Have Chiefs, Royals made ‘threats’ to leave Kansas City, Missouri?

This isn’t his first time hitting the mound; he also had the honor back in 2016.

He’s also not the first Chiefs star to hit the mound at the K.

Tight end Travis Kelce threw a strike for his first pitch at Chiefs Night at the K last summer, but he admitted he nearly slipped.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, son of a former Major Leaguer, showed off his pitching abilities in 2018. He’s now a co-owner of the Royals.

The Royals are wrapping up Spring Training in Surprise, Arizona, before they head back to Kansas City for the regular season.

On Opening Day, the Royals will host a pre-game concert from Kansas City band Lost Wax starting at 1 p.m. on the Milller Lite Fountain Bar Deck (above the left-center field fountains).
