Chelsea ensured they will enter the final day of the Women's Super League season on top of the table and in pole position to win a fifth straight title after Maika Hamano's goal earned them a tense 1-0 win away to Tottenham.

In Emma Hayes' penultimate game in charge, Japan international Hamano struck the winner late in the first half when she got on the end of a superb cross from Niamh Charles, just as it was looking like Spurs might frustrate the reigning champions and hand the title advantage to Manchester City.

Ahead of the final round of matches on Saturday, Chelsea lead the way on goal difference and in their game away to Manchester United must match or better the result earned by City, who travel to Aston Villa.

Should both teams win, City would need to better the Blues' margin of victory by three clear goals to win a second WSL crown.
