Here a quick glance at Portage County's 12 high school baseball teams:

Aurora Greenmen

Head Coach: Trent Dalton (third season)

Assistant Coaches: Jake Knapp, John Scott, Alan Krontz, Colin Witherspoon, Scott Williams

2023 Record: 17-9 (11-3 Suburban American)

Returning Letterwinners (12): Dom Trivisonno, Dean Larrance, Jameson Embrescia, Nate Fletcher, Zach Williams, Nate Albanese, Brady Carlson, Carson Smith, Ryan Tierney, Will Pfiffner, Jayce Unverferth, Tommy Hach

Letterwinners Lost (12): Ben Schechterman, Sam Retton, Nathan Balkissoon, Andrew Eichenauer, Kyle Hanna, Alex Harrell, Nolan Just, Dylan Vonderhaar, Connor Tonsing, Tyler Tartabini, Jacob  Trudick, Sam Bianco

Leadoff Thought: Last year's Suburban American co-champs graduated a ton of talent, including sending Ben Schechterman down Interstate 71 to Ohio State. The Greenmen should still run on great batteries, led by the dynamic duo of Nate Fletcher and Zach Williams on the mound and savvy catcher Dom Trivisonno.

Crestwood Red Devils

Head Coach: Chris Stanley (third season)

Assistant Coaches: DJ Jones, Scott Craig, John Baldwin, Jeff Fejes

2023 Record: 4-16 (2-10 Chagrin Valley Conference)

Returning Letterwinners (9): Landon Kuenzer, Steven Lincoln, Charlie Sommer, Bobby Bradley, Nolan Huntington, Wyatt Januska, Cameron Gross, Cooper Pausch, Sam Wright

Letterwinners Lost (3): JP Wrobel, Jonas Honeycutt, Isaac Yanovich

Leadoff Thought: The Red Devils have been young for a while now, but the experience is starting to add up for a team with no seniors, providing excitement for the years ahead.

Field Falcons

Head Coach: Joe Peterson (12th season)

Assistant Coaches: Keith Bowers, Dru Pifel, Brian Clark, Evan Tutak, Levi Loweden, Austin Williams

2023 Record: 23-8 (12-2 Metro Athletic Conference)

Letterwinners Lost (6): Garit Greene, Gavin Greene, Braxton Baumberger, Caleb Gartner, Bradley McBroom, Logan Lonzrick

Leadoff Thought: The Falcons return a lot of talent, including an absolutely stacked infield led by Grady Eader, Drexal McAmis and Kayden Smith. The key is whether Field can continue its outstanding run of great pitching after graduating its one-two punch of Caleb Gartner and Braxton Baumberger.

Garfield G-Men

Head Coach: Michael Paes (ninth season)

Assistant Coaches: Scott Eberly, Kyle Workman

2023 Record: 21-7 (10-4 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Grey Tier)

Letterwinners Lost (4): Ian Hunt, Jackson Sommer, Carter Bates, Vinnie Grandizio

Leadoff Thought: After an outstanding season, the G-Men have the pieces to thrive once again, including one of the area's top pitchers (Eric Geddes) and leadoff hitters (Brandyn Bogucki).

Kent Roosevelt Rough Riders

Head Coach: Michael Haney (22nd season)

Assistant Coaches: Ron Spears, Jesse Michel, Todd Schromm, Jason Preising, Zach Lewis, Zach Rogers

2023 Record: 19-8 (10-4 Suburban American)

Returning Letterwinners (10): Scottie Spears, Ryan Schromm, Antony Baggetta, Samuel Lanier, Matthew McCann, Brayden Darkow, Tystan Page, Ryan Sanders, Teddy Maccarone, John Estep

Letterwinners Lost (8): Donovan Daetwyler, Michael Haney III, Logan Poole, Peyton Singer, Jon Jon Smith, Cole Wood, Jason Spurlock, Tyler Poluga

Leadoff Thought: After finishing one game shy of the Suburban American title a year ago, Roosevelt graduated a lot but should be very solid up the middle, led by CF Sam Lanier, SS Teddy Maccarone and C Ryan Schromm.

Mogadore Wildcats

Head Coach: Chris Williams (first season)

Assistant Coaches: Aaron Pendergast, Mike Gasaway, John Dasco

2023 Record: 9-10 (6-4 Portage Trail Conference)

Returning Letterwinners (9): Austin Constantine, Chad Westfall, Cole Reese, Devin Graham, Javon Spicer, Ronnie Skye, Ryan Woitas, Tanner Buso, Tyler Pendergast

Letterwinners Lost (1): Mason Williams

Leadoff Thought: With a lot of experience and a nice one-two punch of Ronnie Skye and Cole Reese on the mound, the Wildcats should be plenty competitive in the PTC and Division IV tournament.

Ravenna Ravens

Head Coach: Lee Lovejoy (second season at Ravenna, sixth overall)

Assistant Coaches: Matt Byers, Garrett Hickle, Carter Bregant, Jim Lovejoy, Earl Lovejoy

2023 Record: 5-22 (1-13 Metro Athletic Conference)

Returning Letterwinners (7): Connor Welling, Logan Hysell, Matthew Fuller, James Evans, Nic Brazelton, Sean Jordan, Jeriah Miller

Letterwinners Lost (5): Emmanuel Miller, Marcus Gibson, Ben Hatcher, Nate Joslyn, Jeremiah Rogers

Leadoff Thought: With the graduation of a number of longtime staples, the Ravens have plenty of spots to fill and a very flexible roster. Expect players to shuffle positions throughout the year.

2023 Record: 7-14 (2-8 Portage Trail Conference)

Letterwinners Lost (1): Carson Flowers

Leadoff Thought: Coming off a rare losing season, the Rovers return their entire pitching staff from a year ago, including a number of talented young arms, providing optimism for 2024 and beyond.

Southeast Pirates

Head Coach: John Kinsey (sixth season, first at Southeast)

Assistant Coaches: John Kinsey Sr., Dan Miller, Tom Sharish, Mick Sharish

2023 Record: 5-16 (4-6 Portage Trail Conference)

Returning Letterwinners (8): Nate Muncy, Logan West, Logan Lavigna, Caleb Miller, Zach Keto, Caleb Martin, Joe Sharish, Max Wood

Letterwinners Lost (2): Evan Riffle, Ian Carter

Leadoff Thought: Ace Nate Muncy is well known as a Kent State commit, but the Pirates believe their depth, particularly on the mound, is something that will stand out all season.

Streetsboro Rockets

Head Coach: Chris Scisciani (19th season)

Assistant Coaches: Ira Campbell, Kevin Kukla, Tracy Lewis, Jared Tuma, Gabe Boyer

2023 Record: 11-10 (7-7 Metro Athletic Conference)

Returning Letterwinners (7): Jack Pincoe, Hunter Pollock, Jack Batten, Braden Craft, Matt Klimak, Jayden Coffie, Scott Wilson

Letterwinners Lost (6): Colby Benjamin, Kaleb Fisher, Luke Jacobs, Kyle Liddle, Noah Newman, Nick Setters

Leadoff Thought: With a plethora of young, talented hitters, a stellar middle infield led by SS Jack Batten and 2B Jack Pincoe, and a dynamite catcher in Braden Craft, the Rockets are ready to contend in the MAC.

Waterloo Vikings

Head Coach: Jeremy Randles (second season)

Assistant Coaches: Dennis Gump, Anthony Podojil

2023 Record: 8-14 (5-8 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Tier)

Returning Letterwinners (9): Drew Flarida, Kyle Werbeck, Aric May, Landon McClain, Trevor Simons, Mason Sweitzer, Vincent Mori, Sam Russell, Austin Hurst

Letterwinners Lost: (2): Noah Hughes, Anthony Podojil

Leadoff Thought: This Vikings team is loaded with speed and can wreak havoc on the basepaths.

Windham Bombers

Head Coach: Jake Eye (third season)

Assistant Coaches: Eliot Pennel, Eliot Thompson

2023 Record: 7-7 (8-9 Northeastern Athletic Conference)

Returning Letterwinners (7): Anthony Paolella, Jack Eye, Dylan McCune, Brian King, Austin Cales, Jordan Ridenbaugh, Gavin Kiser

Letterwinners Lost (3): Chase Eye, Lucas Churchill, Wyatt Hanshaw

Leadoff Thought: The Bombers have plenty of solid hitters, with Jack Eye and Dylan McCune both batting above .450 last year, but will need to manage innings carefully on the mound with just 14 players on the roster.
