Chasing 1,000 yards: Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley, running back Travis Etienne make it

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley and running back Travis Etienne reached their respective 1,000-yard barriers during Sunday's game at Tennessee.

Tight end Evan Engram fell 37 receiving yards short of four figures but came close to meeting the single-season standard at his position in NFL history.

But none of it mattered in a 28-20 loss to the Titans that ended the Jaguars' season at 9-8. And before the game, all three went on the record emphatically when they said individual records wouldn't matter without a victory and the AFC South title.

"Win first, then worry about stats," Ridley said last week.

The Jags fell flat in executing job one.

Ridley was the first to crack 1,000

With a 14-yard reception late in the second quarter, Ridley passed the 90 yards he needed to post his second 1,000-yard receiving season in the NFL.

Ridley got 59 of the yards on one catch, a deep pattern that went for a touchdown in the second quarter after he gathered the ball in from quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Four plays after the reception that got Ridley past 1,000 yards, Lawrence was intercepted for the second time in the first half.

Ridley caught six passes for 106 yards and finished the season with 76 catches (second behind Engram on the team) and 1,016 yards, which leads the team. Ridley had eight touchdowns, two short of his career-best at Atlanta.

He last had 1,000 yards in 2020 when he had 1,374 yards for Atlanta.

Etienne's 1,000 yards was hard-earned

Etienne needed 49 rushing yards to reach 1,000 and found it hard going against the Titans defense. He gained 37 yards on 10 carries in the first half and finally reached 1,000 with a 4-yard gain late in the third period.

Etienne finished with 57 yards on 16 carries and has 1,008 for the season, his second in a row. Last year he became the fifth Jaguar running back to crack 1,000 yards.

Etienne was kept out of the end zone on Sunday and finished with 10 TDs rushing, the most since Maurice Jones-Drew in 2011.

Engram joins select company

Engram finished the season with 963 yards but with 10 receptions (for 79 yards) he caught 114 passes, two short of two standards: the most catches in one season by a tight end in NFL history, 116 by Zach Ertz of Philadelphia in 2018; and the most catches in one season by a Jaguar, 116 by Jimmy Smith in 1999.

Engram passed four players to get to second on the all-time NFL list, Travis Kelce, Darren Waller, Mark Andrews and Jason Witten.

Engram passed Smith for the second-most receptions in one season on the Jaguars' all-time list, 112 that Smith compiled in 2001.
