Champion quarter horse Danjer dies at age of seven
One of quarter horse racing's greatest horses, Danjer, died on Sunday, TRACK Magazine reported.
The magazine reported that Danjer died of an aneurysm at Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino.
Danjer, a 7-year-old gelding, was trained by Dean Frey and owned by Frey along with Downtime Enterprises LLC and Billy G. Smith.
Danjer won 22 of 35 starts in his career, including two races this year. He also finished second seven times and third three times. He has raced at several of the top tracks in the area, including Ruidoso Downs, Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino, Remington Park, Lone Star Park and Albuquerque Downs. He had earned $2,499,432. He is third on the all-time money earned list among quarter horses behind KJ Desparado and Ochoa. Danjer won a quarter-horse best 12 Grade 1 races and last raced on June 3 in Oklahoma.
