CFP rankings: SEC teams in fifth College Football Playoff Top 25 poll of 2023 season

With Rivalry Week in the SEC books (and what a Rivalry Week it was), it's now conference championship week in the college football world.

Perhaps the most impactful championship when talking about College Football Playoff implications is in the SEC, as Georgia, which sits at the No. 1 spot in the fifth College Football Playoff poll, takes on No. 8 Alabama in Atlanta. The Bulldogs have likely already punched their ticket, but the Crimson Tide will have to win to turn up the heat on the conversation after slotting in at the eighth spot in the latest CFP rankings.

The CFP, however, is far more than just the top four: The SEC is remarkably well-represented after the regular season, with Missouri, Ole Miss, LSU, and Tennessee also appearing in the standings.

With that said, the biggest unanswered question remains: Does Alabama have a chance? Georgia and Michigan seem like locks, while the pending Pac-12 champion and Texas, with a win, will have very compelling cases. However, anything can happen when talking CFP, as history has shown.
