Twice was nice — and never in doubt for Central Kitsap's girls cross country team at Saturday's state championship meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

For the second consecutive year, the Cougars dominated the Class 3A field to claim top team honors. Central Kitsap totaled 74 points to leave runner-up Blanchet (133 points) in the dust. No other team could come close to matching the Cougars' depth of talent as five runners placed in the top-26, led by junior Clare Herring in ninth place with a time of 18 minutes, 41.1 seconds.

"That was our strength and the strength of any good team," Central Kitsap head coach Jeremy Duplissey said.

Behind Herring, sisters Taylor and Audra Palmer took 17th and 19th. Camryn Bishoff finished right behind in 20th and Sally Corder clinched the team victory with a 26th-place finish.

Central Kitsap's girls will be back in action Nov. 11 at the Nike Northwest Regional championship meet on Nov. 11 in Boise.

Central Kitsap's boys reached the podium for the first time since 1982, placing third with 133 points to finish behind Seattle Prep (80) and Mount Spokane (123). Senior Blake Reynolds ran 16:16.4 to place 20th. The next top four Cougar runners were Mana Voss (26th), Michael Vlach (32nd), Gavin Brown (35th) and David McClain (44th).

In 2A, Kingston's boys placed fifth with 187 points, finishing behind Sehome (62) Anacortes (86), Ellensburg (105), and Columbia River (170). Lucas Lenz ran 15:55.6 to place seventh individually to lead the Buccaneers. Bremerton's Dallin Anderson took 19th. Olympic's Brynn Fulton (32nd) was the top 2A girls runner from West Sound.

Klahowya's Natalie Oathout ran 19:21.5 to place eighth among 1A girls. South Kitsap's Lauren Laws finished in 19:22.5 to place 24th among 4A girls.

South Kitsap's Amelya Lester-Dame won the ambulatory girls title, crossing the finish line in 18:58.50.
