Celtics alum Kemba Walker makes AS Monaco debut wearing Jayson Tatum’s signature sneaker

When former Boston Celtic Kemba Walker made his debut overseas with EuroLeague’s AS Monaco, the veteran point guard had on a special pair of sneakers. The four-time NBA All-Star wore a black and white pair of Jayson Tatum’s signature Jordan shoes, the Tatum 1s.

After twelve seasons in the NBA, Walker inked a deal to play in Europe this summer. The 33-year-old explained he was particularly excited that Monaco was so eager to sign him and believed in his ability to lead their team. The move pairs him with fellow former NBA players like Elie Okobo and Domantas Montejunas, both of whom also play for Monaco. Following the game, Walker shared his joy over what was an exciting first game with his new club.

“I loved every second of it. These fans are amazing,” Walker said. “They cheer for their team the entire night. I appreciate that.”

Walker joined the Celtics during the 2019 offseason after a sign and trade deal with his former club, the Charlotte Hornets. He spent several years with Boston, quarterbacking the team’s offense during a few deep postseason runs. After leaving Boston, Walker bounced around the NBA before landing in Monaco, where he seems poised to thrive.

“I am overjoyed, honestly,” Walker said. “I am happy to be out there. My teammates are very happy for me as well. It is a great feeling to have my first game here against this team and in this atmosphere. It was amazing, and I had a lot of fun.”
