Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert released from hospital after suffering stroke
The Cleveland Cavaliers began a pivotal day — in which the team continued its rebuild by drafting Darius Garland with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft — with some good news.
Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was released from the hospital, one month after landing in the ICU with a stroke, according to a statement from Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner obtained by Forbes:
“Yesterday, Dan Gilbert was discharged from the hospital and will now continue focusing on his recovery at an in-patient rehabilitation center,” wrote Farner. “Dan is looking forward to beginning an intensive rehabilitation program and is eager to continue the progress he has made over the last several weeks.”
The 57-year-old Gilbert was initially hospitalized on May 26 after not feeling well and being taken to the hospital by a family friend. Gilbert suffered the stroke there, but was awake and responsive just a day later.
Gilbert purchased the Cavaliers back in 2005 and has since become one of the most publicly present owners in the league, mostly thanks to a once-rocky relationship with LeBron James.
Fortunately, it looks like Gilbert avoided the worst with his stroke.
