Castlewood also sweeps; Groton Area and Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern also collect wins

RAPID CITY — The Aberdeen Smittys and Rapid City Post 320 Stars each used late rallies to win games in an American Legion Baseball doubleheader on Monday.

Aberdeen (17-11) scored on an error in the top of the seventh to take a 2-1 lead in the opener before Rapid City plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to win 3-2 on a walk-off single by Joe Corwin.

Rapid City led the second game 5-3 before Aberdeen took over with a nine-run seventh inning that featured run-scoring hits by Phillip Zens, Andrew Ristau-Richardson and Drew Salfrank. The Smittys also scored on an error, four bases-loaded walks and a hit batsmen with the bases loaded.

Salfrank had two hits in the opener. Zens struck out eight in six innings, but still took the loss. Salfrank also collected two hits in the second game.

Castlewood 1-4, Sisseton 0-0

SISSETON — Pitching gems by Booker Schooley and Xander Sheehan power Castlewood to the American Legion sweep on Monday.

Schooley fanned seven batters and fired a one-hitter in the opener. Sisseton's Konnor Sieber took the loss, despite allowing only two hits with seven strikeouts.

Castlewood (6-4 overall) scored the game's only run on an error. Lane Tvedt doubled and Jyler Tharaldsen singled.

Carter Stickland had the lone hit for Sisseton.

In the second, Sheehan tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts. David Prohl tallied two hits and Jeremiah Wiersma drove in two runs for Castlewood. Kegan Tvedt, Lane Tvedt, Tharldsen and Wiersma added singles.

Julius Cloud suffered the loss for Sisseton.

Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern 8, Webster 3

WEBSTER — Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern scored six runs in the final three innings and collected 13 hits in the American Legion Baseball win on Monday.

Kade Stahl drove in two runs with a double and two singles. Fehi Faonelua smacked a double and a triple and joined Quinton Fischbach and Mac Heinz with two hits. Noah Fischbach contributed a double.

Samuel Vetter earned the win, allowing only one hit over 4 2/3 innings.

Matthew Mount hit an inside-the-park homer, Brent Snaza doubled and Christopher Gaikowski singled for Webster.

W-I-N's Junior Legion won the opener 9-2. Mount had a run-scoring double and Jared Schimmel a run-scoring single for Webster.

Groton 15, Hamlin U16 0

BRYANT — Cole Simon tossed a five-inning perfect game in the American Legion Baseball victory on Monday.

Offensive leaders for Groton include Brevin Fliehs, triple and two singles; Cade Larson, two hits and four runs batted in; Bradin Althoff, two singles; Colby Dunker, two doubles; and Kaleb Hoover, a triple.

Groton's Junior Legion followed with a 15-14 win over Hamlin (1-14) in the second game. Watson Grantham, Gavin Maag and Kelby Hauck each had two hits for Hamlin. Grantham scored three runs and Maag drove in three. Ted Smith and Maag each doubled.

Hamlin visits Elkton on Thursday.

Amateur Baseball

Larchwood Diamonds 9, Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar 4

Trevor Reinke, Cody Groskreutz and Keaton Grevengoed each homered to carry Larchwood to the amateur baseball win on Sunday.

Kelly Coates finished with three hits and Mitch Babcock two for Aberdeen (6-4). Coates, Tyler Oliver and Jesse Babcock each hit doubles.

Lucas Heiser suffered the loss.

Groton Locke Electric 9, Miller-Wessington Outlaws 6

BRYANT — Garrett Knebel's three-run double in the top of the 10th inning gave Groton the amateur baseball win on Sunday.

Johnny Celedonio produced three hits and Conner Thaler, Alex Morris, Wyatt Locke and Nick Morris two each for Groton (2-1).

Juan Martinez collected four hits and Jay Winter three, including two doubles, for the Outlaws.
