Castlewood, Clark and Redfield teams pick up amateur baseball victories on Sunday.

Watertown Post 17 and the Aberdeen Smittys each concluded their regular seasons with American Legion Baseball games on Sunday.

Watertown (32-30) lost 11-3 on the road at the West Fargo (N.D.) Patriots. Aberdeen (25-16), playing a home, split a doubleheader against Harrisburg Gold. Harrisburg won the opener 6-3 and Aberdeen bounced back to win the nightcap 19-9.

Official pairings for South Dakota Class A best-of-three regional playoffs that start Thursday haven't been finalized. After Sunday's games, Watertown was No. 8 and Aberdeen No. 9. That means the two teams could square off on Thursday and Friday at Watertown Stadium pending results from Monday.

Trey Stocker and Landon Troftruben each had three hits to lead West Fargo past Watertown. Kaden Rylance, who drove in two runs, and Jackson Maag each had two hits for Post 17. Justin Remmers took the loss.

Carter Hoffman hit a three-run homer and Aberdeen native Braxton Kusler tossed a five-hitter to lead Harrisburg Gold past Aberdeen in the opener of their doubleheader on Sunday. Casey Vining and Drew Salfrank each doubled for Aberdeen.

In the second game, Casey Vining plated four runs with a double and a homer and Andrew Ristau-Richardson and Jackson Welke each added three hits to lead Aberdeen. Cooper Eisenbeisz doubled and singled and joined Ristau-Richardson and Welke with three RBIs. Zane Backous pitched in with a triple and a single.

Maddux Scherer drove in three runs with a double and a two singles for Harrisburg Gold.

Hamlin 16U drops games

Hamlin lost to West Central 12-8 and Flandreau 8-5 on Sunday.

Gavin Maag had three hits and Ted Smith doubled and drove in three runs for Hamlin against West Central. Watson Grantham and Riggs Prouty had two hits apiece.

Prouty doubled and hit two singles in the loss to Flandreau. Jacob Williams doubled and singled.

Amateur Baseball

Castlewood Ravens 18, Milbank Firechiefs 9

Nate Phinney and Braedon Zaug combined for 10 runs batted in to power the Ravens to the Eastern Dakota League win on Sunday.

Castlewood (12-3 overall) closed out EDL play with a 12-2 record.

Phinney plated five runs with a double and three singles. Zaug also drove in five runs with three hits, including two doubles. Gus Steiger added three hits and scored five runs and Zach Hirsch drove in three runs with a double and two singles. Tommy Vener, who had two hits, and Kellan Benck each doubled.

Tucker Wookey earned the win in relief.

Merik Junker homered as part of a three-hit, five-RBI performance for the Firechiefs (9-7 overall and 7-6 in the EDL). Mitch Quade also had three hits and Kellen Hoeke doubled.

Clark Traders 12, Castlewood Monarchs 2

Clark put away the Monarchs by scoring eight runs in the final two of innings of the seven-inning Eastern Dakota League game on Sunday. The Traders led only 4-2 after five innings.

Brent Griffith and Bryce DesLauriers each produced three hits and Grayson and Rhett Florey, Andrew Magedanz and Jay Huber two each for the Traders. Griffith and Magedanz each doubled. Hudson Fuller notched the win.

Blayne Schliesman had two hits for the Monarchs, 4-10 overall and in the EDL. Chris Lather suffered the loss.

Redfield Dairy Queen 8, Northville Merchants 7

Bennett Osborn drove in three runs with a homer and two singles to lead Redfield to the win on Sunday.

Nolan Gall, Easton Millar and Simon Bowar had two hits apiece and Peyton Osborn doubled. Millar also drove in three runs and fanned eight batters in the complete-game win.

Ben Fischbach hit two doubles for Northville. Jeremiah Maxfield struck out nine batters in eight innings.
