Apr. 1—Casia Steinhaus of Devils Lake, a UND freshman double majoring in math and physics, is competing in air rifle and smallbore rifle events at the

Junior Olympic National Rifle Championships,

which begins Tuesday, April 2, at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The following week, Steinhaus will compete in the

Junior Olympic National Pistol Championships

for air pistol, also in Colorado Springs.

Match participants will compete to qualify for the World Junior World Cup. Steinhaus will compete against

Katie Zaun of Buffalo, North Dakota, a member of the Texas Christian University rifle team,

who has qualified as an alternate for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Representing UND, Steinhaus recently competed in the National Intercollegiate Rifle Championships in Indiana, where she became the national intercollegiate champion for both air rifle and smallbore rifle, and the overall national intercollegiate champion. The accomplishment marks only the second time in the history of this match that someone has swept all three championships, Steinhaus said in an email.
