Carmelo Anthony wants to join the New York Knicks

Last summer, Carmelo Anthony fulfilled a longtime dream by playing on the same NBA team with LeBron James when the Los Angeles Lakers signed him as a free agent.

Anthony played well at times, especially at home, giving L.A. a major offensive lift. However, overall he was inconsistent offensively, and his defense and passing were very subpar.

He has been part of a massive roster overhaul this summer, as he is one of numerous role players who the Lakers have either let go of or haven’t expressed much interest in retaining.

It appears Anthony wants to return to his hometown team.

Via Lakers Daily:

“According to a recent report, forward Carmelo Anthony has interest in returning to the New York Knicks.

“‘I have certainly heard that Carmelo’s got interest in a reunion,’ NBA insider Jake Fischer said. ‘I don’t know if the Knicks have much interest there.'”

According to general manager Rob Pelinka, one of the Lakers’ biggest goals this summer has been to become younger and more athletic. They have accomplished that goal by getting rid of the countless old, washed-up players they had last season and replacing them with men who are mostly in their mid-20s.

Anthony has been a very popular player among Lakers fans, but it looks like they need to accept the fact he will not be in the Purple and Gold this season.
