Carlisle's walk-off homer leads Portsmouth baseball to second late win in as many days

PORTSMOUTH – For the second time in as many days the Portsmouth High School baseball team saved its best for last.

After beating the defending Division I state champions in extra innings on Wednesday, Jake Carlisle blasted a two-run, walk-off home run on Thursday as the Clippers celebrated Senior Night with a 5-4 win over Bishop Guertin. It was Carlisle’s second homer of the game.

The Cardinals took a 4-3 lead in the seventh on Ryan Haskell's single to right, but Sebastian Lampert, pitching in relief of starter Matthew Minckler, got back-to-back strikeouts to keep it a one-run game.

Carlisle had two hits and three RBIs for the Clippers, while Devin Driscoll laced an RBI double.

Lampert allowed three hits and two earned runs over the final 2 2/3 innings, striking out three and earning the win.

BASEBALL

Winnacunnet 14 

Timberlane 2 

HAMPTON – The Warriors plated 11 runs in the fourth inning, breaking open this Division I game.

Jake Fredericks and Miles Pratt both had three hits and three RBIs for Winnacunnet (13-4), while Timmy Knight had two hits and three RBIs.

Ethan Nowak (two hits, two runs), Jackson Larck (hit, RBI, two runs), Brady Thompson (hit, RBI, run) and Mason McDonald (hit, RBI, three runs) contributed to the offense. Senior Pat Desmond, in his first varsity start, scattered five hits and allowed two earned runs over 3 2/3 innings, striking out two and earning the win.

Arjay Sidney retired all four batters he faced in relief, striking out one.

Spaulding 6 

Salem 2 

ROCHESTER – Colin Bissonnette had three hits, and Patrick Callaghan, Wesley Alfonso and Garrett Doucette all had two for Spaulding in this Division I win.

Spaulding senior southpaw Josh Scamman earned the win.

South Portland 9 

Marshwood 0 

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine – Noah Fitzgerald and Henry Dimmerling both had two hits in this Class A South loss for Marshwood (7-4).

Charlie Hudson and Ben Garrepy also had a hit for the Hawks.

SOFTBALL

Prospect Mountain 12

St. Thomas Aquinas 0

ALTON – Sophomore Maddie Hoyt’s single was the lone hit for the Saints in this Division III loss.

STA is now 13-1 on the season, while Prospect Mountain is 13-0.

Winnacunnet 0

PLAISTOW – Kate Gagne doubled for Winnacunnet in this Division I loss.

Newmarket 14

Franklin 2

NEWMARKET - Kierra Souphakhot had three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs for Newmarket in this Division IV win.

Gia Tilton also had three hits and scored three runs for the Mules, while Emma Walkowiak had her first varsity hit.   Emma Surina pitched a complete game and got the win.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Portsmouth 11

Central Catholic 10

PORTSMOUTH - Avery and Morgan Ruhnke both scored three goals as Porstmouth outlasted Massachusetts' Central Catholic in this non-conference game.

Ginger Vinciguerra added two goals for the Clippers, and Annie Parker, Charlotte Marston, and Lily Patterson all had one.

Portsmouth goalie Sage Bussiere had 11 saves.

Dover 18

DOVER – Meghan Healy scored her 100th career point in this Division I win for the Green Wave.

BOYS TENNIS

Portsmouth 8

PORTSMOUTH – Aidan Shilman (No. 1, 8-3), Raphael Hey Tenne (No. 3, 8-3), Ben Welsh (No. 4, 8-6), Jiles Tracz (No. 5, 8-0) and Josh White (No. 6, 8-0) all won in singles action for Portsmouth in its final regular-season game.

In doubles, Shilman and Hey Tenne won 8-1 at No. 1, Tracz and Amitay Hey Tenne won 9-7 at No. 2, and White and Aidan Holt won 8-0 at No.3 

GIRLS TENNIS

Winnacunnet 8  

Kingswood 1  

WOLFEBORO – Polina Makarenko (No. 1, 8-0) ,Stella Sebeny (No. 2, 8-0), Amelia Dumont (No. 3, 8-0), Mackenzie O’Regan (No. 5, 8-2) and Grace VanderEls (No. 6, 8-4) all won in singles for Winnacunnet in this final game of the Division II regular season.

The Warriors finished the season at 13-1 and will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming tournament.

In doubles, Makarenko and Sebeny won 8-0 at No. 1, Dumont and Vander Els won 8-4 at No. 2, and Mazie Snell and Camille Patenaude won 8-2 at No. 3.

Marshwood 5 

Biddeford 

BIDDEFORD - Lucy Parker (No. 1, 6-0, 6-2), Tia Anderson (No. 2, 6-1, 6-4), and Sam Arnold (No. 3, 6-0, 6-2) all won in singles for Marshwood in this Class A South match.

In doubles, Rachel Johnson and Hannah Hodges won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, and Ella Holland and Pamela Daskoski won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2.,

PORTSMOUTH – Sydney Connor (6-0), Sydney Ruel (6-1), Lauren Westlake (6-4), Jia Choi (6-4), Victoria Gabbi (6-0) and Rithika Rajavel (6-4) all won in singles for Portsmouth, which finished its season at 6-1-1..

In doubles, Katie Yeaton and Laci Guerra won 6-0, Olivia McCormack and Jane Edwards won 6-3, Anna Detrolio and Miah Bernier won 6-0, and Conner and Ruel won 6-4.
