Captain Shreve makes history with win

Captain Shreve quarterback Quortni Beaner ran for four scores in the rain in lifting the Gators to the District 1-5A title with a 65-33 victory over Benton on Thursday night at Northwood’s Jerry Burton Memorial Stadium.

The Gators (8-1, 6-0) win the first outright District 1-5A title in school history despite what happens next week in their matchup with Haughton. Shreve won the District 1-4A title in 2005. The 65 points was the most scored in school history.

Holding onto a 4-point second half lead, Beaner found Jordan Wiggins for a 59-yard TD pass, then ran for scores from 4 and 17 yards out to build a 51-33 lead with about nine minutes remaining.
