CAPE SPORTS ROUNDUP: Sandwich boys golf wins tournament championship

The Sandwich boys golf team won the South Shore League tournament at the South Shore Country Club par 72 on Wednesday. Zaren Graff was the medalist and placed first with a 77, while Blaise Chatigney finished in third place with a 79. Dylan McCabe (84), and Luke Greeley (87) also contributed for the Blue Knights.

Girls Volleyball

Nantucket 3, Sturgis East 0: Chloe Marrero (16 kills), Vicki Todorova (23 digs), and Yahely del Rosario Gomez (23 assists) led the way for the Whalers (11-7) over the Storm (6-9).

Old Rochester 3, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Dolphins played through injuries as Old Rochester won in straight sets (25-16, 25-11, 25-19). Giulianna DeSouza (two kills, two blocks), Ryann Johnson (three kills, seven digs), Katie Popovich (five digs), and Meghan Burlingame (13 digs) all contributed for D-Y (10-8).

Notre Dame Academy-Hing. 3, Falmouth 0: The Clippers fell short as NDA won in a sweep (25-19, 25-16, 25-16). Delia Roulston (four aces and 15 digs), Christina Femino (16 assists and two kills), and Erin Barr (eight kills and three digs) all contributed for Falmouth.

Avon 3, Upper Cape 1: The Rams (0-17) lost their last game of the season as seniors Ava Currier, Laney Cooper and Emma King played their last varsity match.

Sturgis West 3, Nauset 0: The Navigators (8-4) swept the Warriors (5-13) in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-10). Samantha VanBeber finished with 16 assists and 20 service points (five aces), while Brodie Gerlach had 18 kills, three blocks, two aces, and seven digs for Sturgis West. Priscilla Lanca served seven points with two aces and five digs, and Chase Liimatainen chipped in eight digs, one kill, served two points, and had good passing and defense.

Carver 3, Monomoy 0: The Sharks (2-13) were swept on the road.

Field Hockey

St. John Paul II 3, Plymouth South 0: Sophie Stanley found the back of the net twice, while Avery Crapo added another goal for the Lions (11-2-4). Assists came from Mia Curley and Kaylee Anthony, while Shea Ryan, Maya DeLancey and Erin Hatton played well on defense.

Sandwich 7, East Bridgewater 0: Alivia Barnes led with two goals for the Blue Knights (16-0-1) to remain unbeaten. Quinn Jordan and Khloe Schultz each scored a goal and an assist, while Julia Giampietro, Julia O'Neill, and Rachel Birch each netted a goal.

Dennis-Yarmouth 3, Nantucket 0: The Dolphins (7-7-4) picked up the win over the Whalers (8-5-3). Lilly Anderson, Megan McDowell and Leah Woodward each scored a goal.

Sturgis East 0, Nauset 0: The Storm (2-6-4) and Warriors (4-9-3) ended in a draw.

Monomoy 9, Pembroke 1: The Sharks (13-2-3) ended the regular season winning five of their last six (one tie). Emily Layton and Kate Huse each scored a goal and dished out two assists, while Emery Cappallo scored twice and handed out one assist. Ella Reeves and Susannah Brown each had a goal and one assist, while Sage Harrison, Sophie Larivee, and Sam Clarke also found the back of the net.

Boys Soccer

Martha’s Vineyard 1, Bourne 0: The Vineyarders (7-7-3) scored the winning goal on a free kick from 25 yards with five minutes to play. Goalkeeper Nathan Reynolds finished with seven saves, while the back line of Dom Quelle, Jake Roux, Mike Dankert and Sean Kelley played well for Bourne. Quinn Moriarty and Leo Andrade played well in attack.

Upper Cape 5, Wareham 0: Jadon Barton scored twice and dished out two assists for the Rams (13-2-2) in the win. Elijah Livramento, Luke Correira and Gabe Vasconselos each netted a goal, while assists came from Lucas Sherman, Livramento and Jacoby Staruski.

Sandwich 2, East Bridgewater 0: The Blue Knights (10-3-3) secured a playoff spot with the win. Adam Klaiber and Owen Woodard each scored a goal, while CJ Bice and Matt Murray each added an assist. Chris Pentoney had the shutout in net.

Falmouth 4, Mashpee 0: The Clippers (5-9-3) picked up a home shutout win over the Falcons (5-10-2).

Girls Soccer

Sandwich 3, East Bridgewater 2: Aubrie Schwager connected with Maddie Keyes for the winning goal with one minute left for the Blue Knights (10-5-1). Lauren Meyer and Megan Jakubicka each netted goal as well. Sophie Wanat and Abi Kinney played well in midfield, and Kailyn Jaroszuk and Lily Hofmann also played well.

Falmouth 2, Mashpee 2: Hailey Garcia and Izzadora Almeida each scored a goal, while goalkeeper Norah Paolini had six saves for Mashpee (5-11-1).

Upper Cape 5, Wareham 0: Alaina Hines finished the game with four goals to lead the Rams (10-5-2) in thier regular season finale. The other goal was scored by left striker Ava Wahler, while Kiera Hibbert recorded her first varsity shutout in net.

Bristol Aggie 7, Cape Tech 1: The Crusaders (0-15-1) lost their regular season finale.
