CAPE COD SPORTS: Chad Tordone wins 66th Cape Cod High School Golf Championship

Over the weekend, the 66th Cape Cod High School Golf Championship took place at Willowbend Bay and Bog. All of the schools in the area competed against one another. Barnstable's Chad Tordone claimed the individual title after shooting a 72, making him the first Red Hawk to win the event since Connor Levesque back in 2019. The top of the field was tight with Monomoy's Jackson Rocco taking second with a 73, and three players (Nantucket’s Paddy Carroll, Sandwich's Blaise Chatigney, and Falmouth's Declan Norris), all shooting 74s.

There was also a overall competition between all the schools, with each of the scores being added together for an aggregate total. Cape Cod Academy took the team title with a 228. The Seahawks were led by Ben Catalano, Oliver Smith and Tripp Germani. Sandwich (231), Nantucket (232), Monomoy (235), and St. John Paul II (236) rounded out the top five.

Cross Country

The Barnstable Red Hawks girls team won the Cape & Islands League Atlantic Division Meet Championship over the weekend with Ava Bullock winning the 5k race in 19:01. The Red Hawks claimed the team title after placing six runners in the top 10 with Lilly DeDecko (19:30, 3rd), Chloe Dibb (20:17, 5th), Eleanor Bullock (20:54, 7th), Kera Clifford (21:43, 8th) and Callie DeDecko (22:06, 9th).

For the boys side, the Nauset Warriors beat Barnstable out by three points (45-42) to take first place. Jaxson Merrill (16:19) placed second for the Red Hawks, Gabe Pichardo (17:25) was fourth, and Kevin DeFeudis (17:35) rounded out the top five for Barnstable. Falmouth's Silas Gartner won the race on the boys side finishing in 16:09.

Girls Soccer

Cape Cod Academy 5, Falmouth Academy 1: Jenna Marsh's four goals helped lead the Seahawks (7-9-1), over the Mariners (7-10). Lili Shanahan had the other goal and also dished out two assists, and Flynn Kayajan made 13 saves.

Nauset 1, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: The Warriors (12-2-4) ended their season with a tie.

Sturgis West 4, Nantucket 3: Maddy Ward had a goal and an assist to help the Navigators (7-7-2) outlast the Whalers (8-10). Mary Kudarauskas and Sophia Lasnicki each scored in the first ten minutes of the game, and Avery Haines had the other goal.

Martha's Vineyard 5, Boston Latin Academy 0:The Vineyarders finished the regular season 11-5-2 behind Elena Giordano's two goals and an assist. Eleanor Mone had a goal and an assist, as did Talia Maccaferri. Sydney Bruguiere had the other goal, and both Leah Thomson and Aedan Coogan added assists.

Sturgis East 4, Rising Tide 2: The Storm (10-7) finished the season with back-to-back wins to enter the postseason.

Boys Soccer

Nantucket 3, Sturgis West 2: The Whalers (11-4-3) finished the regular season with a win, and in the process claimed the Cape and Islands League Atlantic Division Championship. Calvin Guevara had a goal and an assist to lead the way for Nantucket, and both Edin Vasquez and Ryan Coleman also found the back of the net. The Navigators (3-12-1), scored twice in the second half, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Falmouth Academy 4, Cape Cod Academy 2: The Mariners (8-6-3) did all their damage in the first half. Sasha Kaplenko, Gabe Murray, Marcus Greco, and Marc Djikaev all scored for Falmouth Academy in the win. Christian Hanoian, Ben Angell and Gus McGuire all played well defensively.
