Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Cotuit scores 18 runs in shutout win

If the Cotuit Kettleers (20-7) haven't proved yet that they are the best team in the Cape Cod Baseball league this season, they made a statement with a 18-0 win over the Wareham Gatemen for their sixth straight win on Thursday at Lowell Park in Cotuit. With 18 runs on the board, there were sure to be players with monster games. Cole Mathis (Charleston) hit a grand slam, and finished 3-for-5 with six RBIs, and three runs scored. Caleb Lomavita (California Berkeley) finished 3-for-6, with three scored runs and three RBIs. Tulane's Teo Banks and Kentucky's James McCoy each contributed two RBIs. Aidan Hunter (Charleston) picked up the win on the mound as he pitched two scoreless innings, allowed one hit, two walks, and struck out three. Wareham dropped to 10-15-2.

Hyannis Harbor Hawks 7, Brewster Whitecaps 3

Zach Ehrhard (Oklahoma St), and Jonathan Gazdar (Austin Peay St) each finished 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Harbor Hawks (15-12-1). Errhard hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. William Armistead (Southern Mississippi) went 1.1 innings and gave up two hits, one earned run, one walk, and struck out two for the win on the mound. Auburn's Ike Irish, and Indiana's Brock Tibbitts each had two hits for Brewster (9-17-2).

Falmouth Commodores 7, Bourne Braves 2

The Commodores (13-12-2) are heating up with their fifth straight win. Oklahoma's John Spikerman led the way at the plate as he ended his night 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and two scored runs. Parker Coil (Arkansas Fayetteville) pitched four scoreless innings, allowed no hits, one walk, and struck out three for the win on the mound. Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (Rutgers U New Brunswick) led the way at the plate as he went 2-for-4, with a RBI, double, and a scored run for Bourne (15-12-1).

Orleans Firebirds 12, Harwich Mariners 0

Matt Halbach (Califronia San Diego) scored the only run of the sixth inning with a solo home run, and finished 3-for-5. Notre Dame's Jack Penney (two RBIs, two runs) and Virginia's Justin Rubin (three scored runs, two RBIs) each also had three hit days for the Firebirds (12-13). Rubin's Virginia teammate Chase Hungate picked up the win on the mound, as he went three scoreless and allowed no hits, runs, or walks, and struck out one. Devin Obee (Duke) had the lone hit for Harwich (13-15).

Chatham Anglers 3, Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 0

The Anglers (7-15-1) pulled off the upset led by solo home runs from Zach MacDonald (Miami), and Aidan Meola (Oklahoma St). Jack Seppings (Brown) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings and allowed no hits, one walk, and struck out one for the win. Finnegan Wall had seven strikeouts in the loss for Y-D (15-11-1).
