Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Bourne walks off for fourth straight win

The hottest team in the Cape Cod Baseball League continued to roll as the Bourne Braves (12-8-1) picked up their fourth straight win, with a 5-4 walkoff win over the Wareham Gatemen (8-11-2). Alabama's Bryce Eblin finished 2-for-4, with a pair of runs scored, including the game-winning run on a bases-loaded, RBI single from Caden Bodine (Coastal Carolina). Bodine's Coastal Carolina teammate Derek Bender, upped his average to .440, with a two-hit performance. Vanderbilt's Jonathan Vastine finished 3-for-5, with two runs scored in the win.

The game was back-and-forth, with each team holding, and losing the lead to the other. The Gatemen led 3-0 after two and a half innings, courtesy of three unearned runs. The Braves stormed back, scoring four unanswered aided by a sixth-inning, leadoff home run off the bat of Virginia Tech sophomore Garrett Michel. That same inning, the Braves took the lead on Pete Ciuffreda's (Rutgers) RBI single.

West Virginia's Landon Wallace had two RBIs in the loss for Wareham, and Doug Glancy (St. Johns) had a pair of hits, and a run scored.

Cotuit Kettleers 3, Falmouth Commodores 2

Two eighth-inning runs were enough to see the Kettleers improve to 15-6 on the season. UC Berkeley's Caleb Lomavita drove in North Carolina State's Kalae Harrison to break a 1-1 tie with a two-out single. In the ensuing at-bat, Indiana sophomore Carter Mathison drove in Wofford's Ryan Galanie to extend the lead to 3-1. Though the Commodores (7-12-2), did get a run back in the ninth via Tyler MacGregor's (Northeastern) second home run of the season, Jacob Shafer (UNC Wilmington) locked down the win and recorded the save. Cole Mathis (College of Charleston) got Cotuit on the board with a first inning solo home run.

Both starters pitched well for their respective teams. Christopher Kahler (George Washington) only allowed two hits over four shutout innings for the Kettleers, while NC State's Rio Britton allowed a single run over five innings.

Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 5, Hyannis Harbor Hawks 4

The scoring came late for both teams as five runs were scored between the Red Sox (12-8-1) and the Harbor Hawks (10-10-1), across the final four half innings. The game was tied at two entering the bottom of the seventh, but a Will King (Eastern Kentucky) RBI single, and a Brady Neal (LSU) RBI groundout, gave the Red Sox a two-run lead. The teams traded runs in the eighth, and the Hyannis comeback fell just short in the top of the ninth.

Ohio State senior Trey Lipsey drove in Oklahoma State's Zach Ehrhard with one out in the bottom of the ninth to cut the deficit to one, but Georgia sophomore Leighton Finley came on and shut the door. Finley recorded the final two outs for the save.

King finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Red Sox, while UC Santa Barbara's Zander Darby went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs and a stolen base in the win. Western Illinois junior Nick Mitchell finished with three hits and three runs for the Harbor Hawks.

Brewster Whitecaps 7, Harwich Mariners 1

Despite a fog delay threatening to put an early end to proceedings, the Whitecaps (8-11-2) picked up their second straight win, beating the Mariners (11-10). Vanderbilt's Davis Diaz, Florida State's Jamie Ferrer, and Army's Derek Burg, each had a pair of hits in the win. Ferrer had the biggest impact of the trio. The junior finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored. University of South Alabama's Will Turner scored a pair of runs, and reached base three times. Louisville's Patrick Forbes took the ball to start for Brewster and threw three scoreless innings, while both Joey DeChiaro (Old Dominion) and Drake Quinn (Marist) threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Chatham Anglers 5, Orleans Firebirds 5, Suspended

This game was suspended in the 7th inning due to fog, and will be resumed at a later date.

Virginia's Casey Saucke had the only RBI on the night for the Mariners, and fellow Cavalier Ethan Anderson had a pair of hits.
