Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Hyannis one-hits Yarmouth-Dennis

Four different pitchers took the mound for Hyannis (23-13-2) at Dunkin Donuts Park in Hartford, Connecticut, and the quartet combined to pitch a one hit shutout, carrying a no-hitter into the eighth inning in their 8-0 win over the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox on Wednesday. Mason Nichols (Ole Miss) got the start, and went 5.2 innings. Nichols didn't allow a hit, and struck out two.

JB Middleton (Southern Miss) was the first out of the bullpen for the Red Sox, and threw an inning and a third before giving way to Evan Whiteaker (Indiana). Whiteaker had the unfortunate honor of being the one arm to give up a hit, but struck out two in his Cape League debut. Ethan Lanthier (St. Cloud State) had the final three outs. At the plate, Cam Smith (Florida State) went 4-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs, and Oklahoma State's Zach Ehrhard finished with three hits, and two RBIs. Kansas State's Brady Day had the only hit of the night for the Red Sox.

Brewster Whitecaps 5, Chatham Anglers 1

The Whitecaps (15-21-2) took one more step towards the postseason, by widening the gap between themselves and Chatham behind them. Brewster got a big night at the plate from Arizona's Mason White. White had three hits, and drove in three runs. Southeastern's University Darien Smith had his best start of the season. The senior threw six innings, scattered seven hits, and only gave up a single run. Louisville sophomore Patrick Forbes pitched the last nine outs without allowing a hit, and struck out five. Florida's Deric Fabian drove in the only run of the game for Chatham (10-24-2), his tenth of the season.

Sherrod got the Gatemen on the board in the bottom of the second with a two run home run, which tied the game at two. Kansas State's Danniel Rivera had three hits and an RBI in the loss, while Maryland's Elijah Lambros had two hits, an RBI, and a run.

Orleans Firebirds 13, Falmouth Commodores 3

Orleans scored three in the seventh inning, the first on an RBI single from Eddie King (Louisville), and then scored six in the eighth. Fenwick Trimble (James Madison), and Jake Casey (Kent State) each had two-RBI hits in the frame. Notre Dame's Jack Penny hit his third home run of the year, and scored a pair of runs.
