Can't Wait For Saturday | The other shoe dropping at Michigan seems more like a soft pair of slippers

Apr. 17—***

Let me start today's rant with my feelings about Michigan football: I have none.

OK, that's not totally true. The Big Boss likes the Wolverines and I generally root against all his teams. Pretty easy because most of them are brutal. Except the Lions, who are going to the Super Bowl in 2025 (that's called the reverse jinx).

Did Michigan deserve half the national title in 1997? Not really. The Nebraska team it shared the title with would have blown the doors off of the Wolverines. Thirty point margin at least.

I have enjoyed my many trips to Ann Arbor for football. Even the time I got locked in the stadium with Loren Tate long after the game had ended. Eventually, we found our way out.

So, no real issue with Michigan. Then, why am I annoyed by the NCAA penalties that don't amount to much?

Could be that the Wolverines seem to be getting away with a lot. The spy stuff hasn't been settled, but it won't be a surprise if that investigation fizzles. No much appetite for a hard-charging NCAA infractions committee when things that used to be out of bounds are now legal.

Slap on the wrist seems to be the order of the day. But it a bit concerning when the program with the most wins in the history of the sport feels it needs to bend the rules to win. Just kind of yucky.

Good to see the national title back in the Big Ten. But at what cost? Based on the penalties announced, not much.

The decision on Harbaugh's role in the spying scandal is still be determined. But he is making a bundle in the NFL now and is unlikely to ever return to the college game. He is 60 and will likely finish his career in the NFL. If he is found guilty by the NCAA, justice will unlikely be served.

Enough complaining from me. Let me know what you think about the Michigan case by writing me at . Let the Wolverines have it. Or defend them. You decide.
