Greetings from "Can't Wait For Saturday," your morning morsel of college football, courtesy of longtime Illini beat writer, AP Top 25 voter and Heisman state rep Bob Asmusssen. He'll give you his views each day on the game he love

After watching the Illinois football team upset Maryland on Saturday in College Park, I immediately thought on the famous Jack Buck line. You know the one, after Kirk Gibson hit his ridiculous game-winner for the Dodgers in the 1988 World Series,

"I don't believe what I just saw," Buck said during the classic TV broadcast.

Apparently, the college football oddsmakers in Vegas don't believe what they just saw from Illinois.

Despite an impressive win against the 5-1 Terrapins, Illinois enters Saturday's homecoming game against Wisconsin as a field-goal underdog.

The thinking is that Illinois hasn't shown consistency this season.Fair point. But the banged-up, ill, desperate team showed a lot of gumption in keeping Mike Locksley's team out of the Top 25. Had the home team held on for the win, it would have moved onto my ballot at about No. 22.

Before Illinois' win against Maryland win I implied the season was over. Turns out, not so much.

In fact, I'm now considering the possibility that the team can run the table and still sneak into the Big Ten title game.

Crazy talk? We'll see.
