Cancellation advances Hartley to second round of OHSAA football playoffs
For the second time in less than a week, Hartley has had a schedule shakeup as it prepares for the Division IV, Region 15 playoffs.
Third-seeded Hartley (8-2) was originally scheduled to host 14th-seeded Eastmoor Academy (5-5) in the first round Friday. The Warriors, however, opted to withdraw from the playoffs.
With Eastmoor backing out, Duncan Falls Philo (5-5) jumped from No. 15 to No. 14 — and into a matchup at Hartley. But on Tuesday, the OHSAA announced via social media that the game had been canceled because of an illness within the Philo program.

Hartley will now have a first-round bye and host sixth-seeded St. Clairsville (8-2) or 11th-seeded Marion-Franklin (6-4) in a regional quarterfinal Nov. 3.
“It’s unfortunate,” Hawks coach Brad Burchfield said. “We’re disappointed because we wanted to play. Everybody would have got to play, and it would have been a great home game for our fans and our kids. We would have liked to play, but it’s just the way it is.”
