Cam Newton visits kids in Charlotte on Veterans Day after flight delays
Flight delays and bad weather couldn’t stop Cam Newton from making the kids happy.
After watching his Auburn team lose to Georgia, Newton had to get back to Charlotte for a Veterans Day event scheduled with his foundation at the Marsh Boys and Girls Club. He made it to the delight of the kids in attendance.

Serious responsibility
Part of the reason Newton did not want to miss the event was because he understands the importance of his influence.
He told reporters that he is one of the ‘’most influential people in Charlotte” and he doesn’t take that lightly.

He relayed his own story about meeting David Justice after he won the World Series and that seeing the All-Star was a “spark” to him that he “could get to where he is.”
“I just want to be a spark for a kid’s life,” Newton said. “I want to help as many people as possible.”
Charitable History
This isn’t the first time Newton and his foundation have worked with kids or the Boys and Girls Clubs.
In 2015, the quarterback, wearing a Christmas sweater complete with dabbing Santa, surprised fourth- and fifth-grade kids at a Dick’s Sporting Good store. The kids also received $200 to spend at Dick’s to buy gifts for their family.
He later visited, with his dabbing Santa sweater of course, another group of kids at Metro School, many of them developmentally disabled and unable to communicate verbally.
“I am not a Panthers fan, but I’m a huge Cam Newton fan,” Suzanne Evans, the senior administrative secretary at Metro School. “The things he does in the community here — it’s all with kids.”
Earlier this season, Newton urged his fans to join the “Super Cam Club” and make a pledge to donate money to the club for each of his passing and rushing touchdowns during the 2018-19 season. In exchange, Newton would match the donation amount to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
“I’m not just asking people to donate. Whatever you donate, I’m going to match it so we help the world anyway possible,” Newton said.
Newton has accounted for 17 touchdowns so far this year.
Cam the Comedian
To connect with kids, Newton relies on humor. He joked with them that he was normally 5-foot-8 but that with gained eight inches with his extra-cushioned shoes.
Cam tells the kids he's about 6'6" with his shoes on and 5'8" with them off. Said he knew he'd get sized up today so he put some extra cushion in his shoe, "if any of y'all feeling froggy" 😂 🐸

He told reporters that doing so shows them that he’s like them instead of an NFL star.
Also relatable? His love for food. When someone in the audience asks how he handles stress, Newton answered with positive people and comfort food.
Before leaving the kids, Newton left his signature and one last message to them outside their newly renovated Teen Room.
