Calvary’s Kynzee Anderson tosses perfect game, while Cavaliers launch homers

It was another night of bombs away by the Calvary offense and a perfect game by dominating pitcher Kynzee Anderson as the Lady Cavaliers rolled into the LHSAA Select Division III quarterfinals Tuesday with a 12-0 blistering of Beekman Charter.

Anderson, the super sophomore with a variety of pitches, strutted her unhittable stuff against the visitors despite not pitching in a real game for 11 days. Her screwball and riser were working to perfection keeping Beekman without a ball hit out of the infield.

“This helped us get another win under our belts and work out the kinks before we move on to play tougher teams,” said Anderson, who ran her record to 22-2 on the season. “My arm is doing good.”

Calvary (32-2) will host Patrick Taylor (14-6) at 5 p.m. Friday in the quarterfinals with a trip to Sulphur on the line.

Anytime a Cavalier steps into the batter’s box, opposing pitchers must be ready for a line drive to whiz by their heads or sail beyond a distant fence. Against Beekman, Carlie Guile, Loren Sivils and Elana Franks sailed long balls instead of the usual homer suspects, DJ Lynch and Ramsey Walker.

“I waited for my pitch and took advantage of them,” Guile said. “This team didn’t give up a lot. You couldn’t really tell from the outside standpoint that we were winning by how much we were.”

Calvary coach Tiffany Wood said it felt like it had been forever since her team had faced an opponent.

“We came out a little flat even though we scored 10 runs in the first inning,” Wood said. “Now we’ve gotten some live at-bats under our belts, and we got to pitch for five innings. Then we have two days of practice and we’re back playing again. I think that will really help us.”

Logansport 15, Lake Arthur 0: The Lady Tigers moved into the LHSAA Division IV quarterfinals after Ainsley Morvan blasted two home runs with five RBIs. Colby Rolfe and Kennedi Smith both had two hits in support of Avery Creech who ran her record to 15-3.

Alexandria 8, Captain Shreve 7 (8 innings): Seeking to make the LHSAA quarterfinals for possibly the first time in school history, the Lady Gators lost on the road in the LHSAA Select Division I second round. Tied at 7-7 in the eighth inning, the Lady Gators intentionally walked two to load the bases. The ensuing batter walked on four pitches to force in the winning run.

“We were facing their No. 2 and No. 3 hitters and we were trying to set up a force at home,” Shreve coach Mitch Fant said. “We only had one out and we were hoping for a double play to end the inning.”

Converse 7, Pitkin 2: Eight different Lady Cats, the defending state champions, posted hits with Summer Brumley knocking in two as Converse (14-6) advanced in the LHSAA Non-Select Division V playoffs. Macy Morgan, KC Murray and Abby Friday had RBI singles.

Many 2, Pine Prairie 1: The Lady Tigers (16-11) picked up a big road win against Pine Prairie (21-5) in the LHSAA Select Division III contest.

Merryville 3, Lakeside 2: Lakeside (16-17) came within a few good hits of advancing into the quarterfinals of the LHSAA Non-Select D-IV playoffs.
