Calhoun, Fann, Fitzgerald again take top Region 1-7A awards

Dec. 10—MOULTRIE — Colquitt County's undefeated Region 1-7A championship football team has earned three of the league's top individual awards.

Sean Calhoun was named the region's Coach of the Year; quarterback Neko Fann, the Player of the Year; and kicker Brett Fitzgerald, the Special Teams Player of the Year.

All three are repeat winners.

The other top region awards went to Richmond Hill's Nick Bliss, Offensive Player of the Year; Valdosta's Eric Brantley Jr., Defensive Player of the Year; and Richmond Hill's Ja'Marley Riddle and Valdosta's Todd Robinson, co-Athletes of the Year.

The Packers also had five offensive players and six defensive players named to the All-Region first team.

First-team Packers include running back Ramsey Dennis, tight end Landen Thomas, offensive tackle Ja'Quavian "Turk" Daniels, wide receiver Ny Carr, wide receiver Zay Williams, defensive linemen Amari Wilson and Jartavius Flounoy, linebackers Nick Pace and Tyshon Reed Jr., and cornerbacks Ka'Marian Williams and Jah'Boris Fuller.

Packers named to the second team are running back Day'Shawn Brown, offensive guard Ja'Nas Daniels, center Jay'Den Williams, wide receiver Markese Wilson, defensive lineman Johnny Clay, linebackers Chance Sims and Jerrod Blakely and safety Trenton Dunbar.

Receiving honorable mention were tight end Jaden Fowler, offensive linemen Xavier Nickerson and Khalil Collins, snapper Chason Glenn, defensive lineman Ky-von Rivers and punter Sam Miller.

Calhoun led the Packers to a second-straight undefeated Region 1-7A championship.

Colquitt County is 25-2 with trips to the state semifinals and quarterfinals in the two seasons since Calhoun took over the program in 2022.

Fann completed 186-of-304 passes for 3,041 yards and 38 touchdowns this season.

He will graduate with the program records in career passing yards, with 7,823, and career touchdown passes, with 97.

He has committed to play collegiately at Middle Tennessee State.

Fitzgerald, who is just a junior, converted 67-of-68 extra-point attempts and 15-of-17 field goal attempts this season.

And 46 of his kickoffs resulted in touchbacks.

His 177 career extra points represent the school record.

In his three years as a Packer, he also has kicked 35 field goals.

Carr caught 64 passes for 1,261 yards, an average of 19.7 yards a catch, and 21 touchdowns this season.

He grabbed 169 passes for 3,195 yards and 44 touchdowns in his record-setting career.

Dennis, also a junior, rushed for 952 yards and 14 touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass this season.

Thomas finished his outstanding Colquitt County career with 35 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns this season.

The Florida State commit caught 118 passes for 1,934 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career.

Zay Williams caught 47 passes for 805 yards and nine touchdowns this season and finished with 92 receptions for 1,293 yards and 17 scores in his career.

Turk Daniels had an outstanding career for the Packers, starting every game since he was a freshman, 48 in all.

Pace led the Packers with 151 total tackles.

Ka'Marian Williams led the Packers with four interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown in the season-opening victory over Dutch Fork.
