Caleb McCreary, Josh Griffin tally 4 total touchdowns lead Montgomery-area top performers

Semifinals of the 2023 AHSAA state football playoffs is complete and, in basketball, River Region teams participated in key games around the state. Here’s a list of the Montgomery-area high school top performers from the week's action.

Football

Montgomery Catholic's Caleb McCreary completed 8-of-14 passes for 118 yards and 94 rushing yards on 22 carries with two rushing scores in a 28-0 playoff victory over BTW. Josh Griffin added 15 rushes for 92 yards and two scores. JJ Williams finished with six catches for 75 yards. Jo Pierce added seven tackles and an interception. KJ Washington tallied nine tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks.

St. James quarterback KJ Jackson rushed for 189 yards and passed for 260 yards with four total touchdowns in a 34-30 playoff loss to Mobile Christian.

Basketball

Varsity Girls

Prattville Christian’s Kayden Carr led the Lady Panthers with 15 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and also took two charges. Jenna McClendon added 15 points and eight rebounds. Avery Rogers had eight points and five rebounds.

Montgomery Catholic's Hannah Smith, scored her 1,000 career point, led the Knights with 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a 69-62 loss against Trinity on Monday. Kierstyn Green added 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Heaven Bailey had 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Brewbaker Tech’s Kennedi McGhee finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, six steals and three assists. Jillian Baine added 10 points, 10 assists and seven steals. Erin Martin had 18 points, seven rebounds, four steals and four blocks. Makayla Maddox added six blocks and four rebounds. A’Mya Bell scored 13 points in a 78-15 victory over LAMP.

Natalie Barton finished with 32 points. Ava Card scored 17 points. Kaitlin Mitchell added eight points in a 64-53 victory over Pike Road. For Pike Road, Audrey Blaine and Jaz Johnson each scored 21 points.

Varsity Boys

Skyler Stovall led Montgomery Academy with 25 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and six steals. Brewer Welch added 19 points, with four 3-pointers, six rebounds, eight assists, and five steals. Cole Caddell chipped in 19 points, with 15 in the first half, two rebounds, and three assists. DJ Vinson added one point, but grabbed 16 rebounds and had three blocks and two steals. Seth Edwards scored six points and grabbed six rebounds to go along with two assists, a steal, and a block.

Cade Segars led the Panthers with 33 points and seven rebounds. Collier Connell added 16 points and five rebounds. Brady Roberson had 14 points and 14 rebounds. PJ Evans added 11 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds. Lathan Rybarczyk grabbed five rebounds and Wade Mora grabbed four rebounds and added four points and four assists in a 75-70 victory over Trinity.
