Caldwell take down Gaston College

Feb. 3—The Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute men's basketball team won its 14th game in a row after defeating Gaston College 94-66 Wednesday night in Region 10 Division I play.

Ranked 23rd in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association men's basketball rankings, the Cobras have also won 22 straight games at home.

Caldwell's last loss at home came against the Rhinos on Feb. 24, 2022, when the Cobras lost 89-87.

Gaston College (8-12 overall, 1-6 Region 10 D-1) led early in the game before Terrance Johnson gave Caldwell (19-1, 7-0) an 8-7 lead with 14:14 left in the first half.

The Cobras would take the lead for good with 8:17 left in the first half when a Chris Nobles' basket gave Caldwell a 17-15 lead.

Caldwell's lead would grow to 18 points as the Cobras built up a 44-26 halftime advantage.

In the second half, Caldwell's Brandon Morgan scored 14 of his team-high 18 points as the Cobras pulled away from the Rhinos.

A three-pointer from Sergej Cvetkovic with 3:15 remaining in the game put Caldwell in front 88-54.

Pharrell Boyogueno and Torrence Horton scored 17 points each for the Cobras.

The Rhinos' Tyheim Love finished with a game-high 20 points.

With a 7-0 record, Caldwell sits at the top of the Region 10 Division I standings.

Brunswick Community College defeated Cape Fear Community College 90-82 Wednesday night to stay one game back of the Cobras at 6-1.

The Cobras hosted Southwest Virginia Community College (8-10) on Saturday and entertain Spartanburg Methodist College (13-7) on Feb. 7.
