Byng shuts down host Pauls Valley

Sep. 20—PAULS VALLEY — The Byng High School softball team put a complete game together in a convincing 13-0 win over Pauls Valley Monday in a District 4A-4 road game.

Coach Markus Carr's club improved to 10-17 overall and 4-8 in the district, while Pauls Valley dropped to 8-18 and 3-9.

The Lady Pirates were scheduled to host Dickson Tuesday night before heading to the Ada High School Softball contest to battle the Lady Cougars. That contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. following Senior Night activities for the Ada squad.

Meanwhile, Ada came up on the short in of a 10-0 setback to host Purcell on Monday in another District 4A-4 matchup. Coach Jeremy Strong's bunch is 9-16 overall and is tied with Byng for the fifth spot in the 4A-4 standings at 4-8. League-leading Purcell improved to 22-7 and 12-1.

Ada played at Sulphur Tuesday night, weather permitting.

Byng 13, Pauls Valley 0

The Lady Pirates broke open the game with a nine-run outburst in the top of the third inning to forge an 11-0 lead. The game lasted just five frames due to the run rule.

Byng collected eight total hits and didn't commit an error.

Alona Cooper-Rochovitz led the Byng charge, going 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs, two walks and two runs scored from her leadoff position. Hannah Wort finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Lady Pirates and Piper Presley went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and RBI and scored three times.

Aubrey Pope ended up 1-for-3 with two runs scored and McKenzie Alford knocked in a pair of runs for the visitors.

Wort was in complete command from the circle for the Lady Pirates. She struck out eight, walked none and scattered four hits through five scoreless innings.

Pauls Valley got singles from Madi Caldwell, Lily Ray, Gabi Zellner and Keegan Scott.

Isabelle Hicks absorbed the loss for Pauls Valley. She struck out seven and walked five in five innings.

Purcell 10, Ada 0

The Lady Cougars couldn't get much offense going against Purcell ace H Whitaker. She struck out two, walked none and allowed just two hits through five shutout innings.

The Lady Dragons led just 3-0 before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game via the run rule.

Kiki Williams and Josie Morgan had Ada's only hits in the contest.

MacKenzie McKay led a 10-hit Purcell offense, going 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Kaylin Vazquez finished 1-for-1 with two walks, a triple, an RBI and a run scored. Brynley Jennings also cracked a triple and scored two runs for the Lady Dragons.

Kelly Anderson ended up 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for Purcell.
