Cheering on his alma mater, the University of South Carolina, is one of the country music star’s favorite pastimes when it comes to college and pro sports. Rucker’s involvement in sports goes beyond typical fandom, as he has recently expanded his partnership with sports e-commerce giant Fanatics. His new collection of licensed apparel now includes all NFL and MLB teams and select NCAA schools.
Rucker, who was a guest on ESPN’s College Gameday last week, is also tied up in other areas of the sports business, from having a college golf tournament named after him to being to being a partner at agency MGC Sports, which represents NFL players, golfers and others pro athletes. He also is on an investor and board member for Music City Baseball, an organization trying to bring an MLB team to Tennessee.
The three-time Grammy Award winner joins Business Beyond the Game to talk about Nashville’s MLB bid, re-upping with Fanatics and the ongoing synergies between athletes and entertainers.
