Burnley lose again as ruthless Crystal Palace make Clarets pay

Crystal Palace beat Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor on Saturday as the Clarets were punished for two big defensive errors.

Jeffrey Schlupp put the Eagles ahead in the first half after poor play from Jordan Beyer, while more sloppy defending led to Tyrick Mitchell wrapping up the win in second half stoppage time.

In the second half Burnley huffed and puffed but only created a couple of opportunities as they have scored just eight goals this season and look totally devoid of confidence.

Burnley have now lost nine of their 11 games back in the Premier League as Vincent Kompany's side were their own worst enemies once again and have just four points on the season and they've lost every single home game.

Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace now have 15 points and are sitting pretty as they won for the first time in four games.

FULL TIME: Burnley 0-2 Crystal Palace

Burnley were their own worst enemies and Palace made them pay. Big time.

GOALLL! Burnley 0-2 Crystal Palace (Tyrick Mitchell, 94th minute)

Game. Set. Match. A poor clearance allows Palace to grab the ball back and Mitchell is on hand to slot home.

SAVE! What a stop from Sam Johnstone

A stunning dipping effort from Burnley skipper Josh Brownhill from outside the box looks like it's going in but Sam Johnstone tips it over. What a save. He also denies Dara O'Shea's header from a free kick later on as Palace are digging deep.

Burnley's assistant coach Craig Bellamy has been booked and that is about as exciting as it has been in the second half. The Clarets are huffing and puffing as they try and find an equalizer but Palace look pretty comfortable right now. This is the perfect type of game for the Eagles.

HALF TIME: Burnley 0-1 Crystal Palace

Burnley huffed and puffed towards the end of the half but Palace got in ahead, despite plenty of protests from players about things going on towards the end of the half. Palace skipper Marc Guehi is booked for his remonstrations as he heads to the tunnel.

GOALLL! Burnley 0-1 Crystal Palace (Schlupp, 22nd minute)

That is a woeful defensive error from Burnley as Beyer somehow gives up the ball out wide and a cross to the back post from Ayew finds Schlupp to tap home. Palace can't believe how easy that was and Beyer is distraught.

Focus on Burnley, team news

Michael Obafemi and Hjalmar Ekdal remain out injured, while influential midfielder Josh Cullen is suspended due to yellow card accumulation. It will be intriguing to see how Kompany lines up in attack as he's tried plenty of players and different combinations so far this season but just hasn't been able to get the balance right.

Focus on Crystal Palace, team news

Olise remains out injured with a thigh injury but Eze will return to the squad and that is a huge boost. James Tomkins and Dean Henderson are out injured, while Tyrick Mitchell should be okay to feature. Palace have been hanging in games, as they always seem to do, but their creative hub has been missing and any PL team will miss talents like Eze and Olise. Ayew, Edouard and Mateta have been tasked with finding the goals to keep Palace comfortably in midtable and all eyes will be on them, plus the returning Eze, in this winnable run of games coming up.
