Bucs pondering Wirfs move to LT, but haven’t committed yet

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have major question marks on their offensive line with the departures of Donovan Smith and Shaq Mason, and they may be considering a significant change that includes one of the team’s star players.

Right tackle tristan wirfs, a two-time All-Pro at the position, could move to the left side of the line to account for the gaps on the team’s offensive front, according to general manager Jason Licht. The team won’t commit entirely to the move, though, and mentioned that there is quite a bit of time in the offseason before they’d have to discuss such things more in depth.

Licht mentioned that the two have discussed the possibility since Wirfs was drafted, but it would not be a quick switch for him. Wirfs played all but three games at right tackle when he played football at Iowa and has not played left tackle for the Bucs, so it would be an undertaking for Wirfs to adjust to a position he does not often play.

That being said, he’s discussed the possibility before, so it remains to be seen whether the team will decide on that course of action when the 2023 season rolls around.
