Bucs competition for strong side LB job 'heated'

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a battle going on for the starting strong side linebacker spot in camp that is "heated," according Bucs coach Greg Schiano.

Newcomer Jonathan Casillas, a free agent addition, is in a fight for the spot, along with holdover Dekoda Watson.

"Jonathan is a good addition," Schiano told the Tampa Bay Times. "Plays with a lot of energy, physical guy, can run, a run and hit player. Been good on teams, one of the reasons we signed him. He's in a competition with Dekoda right now, it's a really heated competition. They're getting after it."

Casaillas admits he is still learning the system, but he impressed in practice Monday with an interception of rookie QB Mike Glennon.

"This is my first year in this defense," Casillas said. "I'm just starting to grasp it. (Monday's interception) is evidence I'm getting a good grasp of not only the run fits, but pass (defense) drops as well."
