Browns DE Myles Garrett gives Joe Burrow nod over Lamar Jackson among AFC North QBs

Things could get spicy this weekend when the Browns invade M&T Stadium in Baltimore against the Ravens Sunday.

Cleveland defensive end Myles Garrett, who is currently very much in the conversation for best defensive player in the league this season, gave Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson his flowers, but…

You knew the “but” was coming, right?

When asked by Kay Adams on the FanDuel TV show “Up & Adams” about his AFC North opponents, Garrett expressed a clear preference in quarterbacks while extolling both their strengths.

“I’m taking down Lamar [Jackson], but I’ll take Joe [Burrow] right now as far as who has the nod over the other,” Garrett said.

Right now, that might be akin to asking someone to pick their poison.

After a sluggish start to the season, the Bengals (5-3) are doing what the Bengals do. They’ve picked up the pace behind Burrow, who after beginning the season with a calf injury, appears healthy now. The Bengals have won four consecutive games. Burrow has a passer rating of 106.3 with 1,298 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions in his last five games.

The Ravens (7-2) may very well be the most well-rounded team in the NFL with their own four-game winning streak. Jackson’s stats for the past five games: 1,160 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions with a passer rating of 98.4. Impressive to be sure.

But Burrow isn’t going to beat you the way Jackson can. Jackson’s elusiveness, the ability to extend plays and to make plays with his legs.

What do you want to bet Garrett’s comments are already up on the bulletin board in the Ravens’ locker room?
