Browns down a DC candidate as the Patriots are extending Jerod Mayo

As the Cleveland Browns begin interviewing potential defensive coordinator candidates, they will have one less interview lined up as the New England Patriots have announced they are extending linebackers coach Jerod Mayo to keep him on staff. The known list of candidates is now down to Jim Schwartz, Brian Flores, and Sean Desai.

Mayo was considered a strong candidate with ties to the University of Tennessee (as does owner Jimmy Haslam). Now, teams will have to wait at least another year for him to take on a new role as the Carolina Panthers were even interested in him as a potential head coach.
