Browns bring back backup QB Josh Dobbs on one-year deal

As the Cleveland Browns started Jacoby Brissett, who just signed with the Washington Commanders, for 11 games in 2022, Josh Dobbs served as his backup at that time. When Deshaun Watson returned from his suspension, however, the Browns released Dobbs in favor of keeping Kellen Mond on the roster. Now, as NFL free agency enters its second week, the Browns have brought Dobbs back to compete with Mond for the role of Watson’s backup.

After departing from Cleveland in 2022, Dobbs went on to start two games for the Tennessee Titans over rookie Malik Willis. In that two-game span, Dobbs threw for over 400 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. It is safe to assume the Browns are not done yet as well.
