Broncos safety Justin Simmons praises teammate P.J. Locke
The Denver Broncos’ defense got a preview of what life without Kareem Jackson will be like over the next two weeks when P.J. Locke filled in for an ejected Jackson against the Green Bay Packers last week.
Locke came in an played well, even sealing the game with a victory-clinching interception late in the contest. After a 19-17 win, Broncos star safety Justin Simmons praised the team’s young defensive back.
“I normally don’t do this, but they were in the perfect offensive play call for what we were running,” Simmons said after the game. “For anyone that goes back and watches the film, that is a one-on-one-type of play that P.J. made, basically playing the half field.
“To run just outside of the numbers [and] to come get number two running a deep over route and pick it. Pass breakup is going to be a heck of a play, but to have the pick to seal the game. I know he knows that was a big play. Everyone knows a big play, but I hope he gets the credit he deserves on that play because that was a heck of a play that not a lot of guys can make.”
Locke, 26, has played in 50 games for the Broncos since 2020, but he is yet to make his first career start. The safety now appears poised to start in the place of a suspended Jackson over the next two weeks. Simmons certainly seems to believe Locke is up to the task.
