Broncos receiver Henderson arrested on marijuana possession charge

Denver Broncos wide receiver Carlos Henderson was arrested in Louisiana early Sunday afternoon and charged with first offense possession of marijuana, according to the Denver Post, which cited the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office.

According to the arrest report, Henderson was a passenger in an SUV that was stopped for going 84 mph in a 60mph stretch in Interstate 20.

The arresting officer smelled marijuana on approaching the car, but Henderson and the driver denied having smoked or possessing the drug. A search by officers turned up "multiple pieces of suspected raw marijuana on and around" Henderson and a bottle of water that appeared to have been used to extinguish a marijuana cigar, according to the arrest report.

The report also states that Henderson's tongue was coated in "thick green residue," but that he denied having eaten any before the stop. The police say he did admit to smoking marijuana earlier in the day, just not in the car.

"We are aware of the issue involving Carlos Henderson and are gathering more information," a statement released by the Broncos Sunday night read.

The third-round pick out of Louisiana Tech did not see the field as a rookie, having been sidelined for the season after undergoing surgery for a thumb injury.

He was bonded out of jail shortly after his arrest.
