Broncos QB Russell Wilson returns to Seattle, gets met with boos

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was met with boos (and a few cheers) when he returned to Lumen Field to face his former team, the Seattle Seahawks, on Monday Night Football in Week 1.

Wilson spent the first 10 years of his career in Seattle and helped the Seahawks reach a pair of Super Bowls, beating the Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII following the 2013 season.

Despite his success in Seattle, the team and quarterback had been moving toward a split for the past several years. The split was finalized in March when the Seahawks traded Wilson to Denver in exchange for three players and five draft picks.

Wilson’s debut with the Broncos will also mark an opportunity to prove Seattle wrong for trading him. Wilson, though, took the high road last week when asked about potential animosity from Seahawks fans.

“People are going to love you, and they are going to hate you sometimes, whatever it may be,” Wilson said. “But I know that for me, I’ll forever have love in my heart for Seattle.”

Monday’s game will be nationally televised on ESPN and ABC.
